Abu Dhabi, 24 Aug. 2010 (WAM) – The Interior Ministry has announced new rules for the people traveling by road to Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

Brigadier Ghaith Hassan Al Zaabi, Director of Traffic Coordination at the Ministry, said today that the Saudi authorities will apply new security measures for the companies operating road transport to the Kingdom.

The new measures require the companies to ensure that each luggage item should have a tag bearing the name of the person it belongs to.

“If an untagged luggage item was found to contain prohibited materials, stern legal measures will be taken (by Saudi authorities) against the bus driver and the operating company,” Al Zaabi said.

Al Zaabi also said that they received a letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informing them that a circular was issued by the Egyptian Customs Department which forbids motorists, other than those permitted, to drive vehicles with temporary entry permit license plates.

“According to the circulars, only the motorist on whose name the permit was issued, is allowed to drive the vehicle with temporary permit. In case of violation, the vehicle will be seized and the permit holder will be banned from getting a temporary permit for two years.”
