These impressive results were highlighted at WETEX 2018 held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre. This is the third consecutive year of The Sustainable City\u2019s participation in the global event to underline its contribution to the sustainable development vision of the UAE.<\/p>\n<p>Home to 2,700 people of 64 nationalities today, The Sustainable City offset 84% of its operational energy in public areas in the past 12 months (from October 2017 to September 2018) through solar photovoltaic panels.\u00a0 Reflecting the spirit of the residential community in promoting the green vision, the total waste generated was only 1.01 kg per person per year, 15% lower than the previous year. Of the total waste, 84% was sorted and diverted away from landfills.. The sustainability initiatives helped avoid 6,741 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions.<\/p>\n<p>Faris Saeed, CEO of Diamond Developers the property and real estate developer behind The Sustainable City, said: \u201cWe are excited to take part in WETEX 2018 for the third consecutive year and to present the tangible achievements of The Sustainable City in the past year. This exhibition is reinforcing the national and global sustainability efforts DEWA has taken to achieve Dubai\u2019s clean energy strategy 2050 and making Dubai a global hub for clean energy and green economy.
