Launched in 2000 with a collection of tailored clothing and sportswear, the brand now represents an entire lifestyle that includes belts, bags, footwear, eyewear, jewelry, fragrances, and includes the younger and edgier John Varvatos Star U.S.A. collection and Bootleg by John Varvatos.<\/p>\n
Before launching his own line, Varvatos was a men’s designer at Polo Ralph Lauren\u00a0in 1983. He then moved on to Calvin Klein\u00a0in 1990 where he was appointed to head of menswear design and oversaw the launch of the men’s collection and the cK brand. During his time at Calvin Klein, Varvatos transformed men’s underwear and was pivotal in the creation of the garments now\u00a0called, boxer\u00a0briefs, a hybrid of boxer shorts and\u00a0briefs. \u00a0The garments were made famous by a series of 1992 print ads featuring Mark Wahlberg,\u00a0they have been called “one of the greatest apparel revolutions of the century.”\u00a0In 1995, Varvatos returned to Ralph Lauren as head of menswear design for all of Polo Ralph Lauren brands and created the Polo Jeans Company.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
