Worth AED 20,000 each, the tickets give complete access to all sessions and special events, plus exclusive money-can\u2019t-buy festival experiences.\u00a0 Every Golden Ticket holder will also receive an exquisitely crafted Montegrappa rose gold plated pen with an 18K gold nib, which retails at over $1,000 USD, and courtesy of Dubai Culture, in celebration of the month of reading, Golden Ticket Holders and one companion will get free access to all the Dubai Museums throughout March.<\/p>\n<p>The news was released at the pre-Festival launch, where organisers also revealed details of a \u2018Beyond Tolerance\u2019 strand, with specially curated sessions treating the UAE\u2019s Year of Tolerance as the starting point for a discussion of what is meant when we talk about \u2018tolerance\u2019 and what sort of values we are looking for in a just and compassionate society.<\/p>\n<p>His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Cabinet Member and Minister of Tolerance said, \u201cThe Emirates Literature Festival is an iconic cultural institution and a highlight of the annual cultural landscape of the United Arab Emirates. The Ministry of Tolerance is proud to support the \u2018Beyond Tolerance\u2019 stream of this year\u2019s festival that coincides with the \u2018Year of Tolerance\u2019. The recent visit of His Holiness Pope Francis and the Grand Imam of al-Azhar Dr Ahmed el-Tayeb to the United Arab Emirates and their joint promotion of human fraternity as a catalyst to the building of a more peaceful and tolerant world, provide an excellent backdrop for the compelling \u2018Beyond Tolerance\u2019 strand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To encourage dynamic interaction with the Tolerance strand, a recording booth at the Festival with audiobooks company <strong>Storyte<\/strong>l who will record words of tolerance from festival visitors, enabling them to actively engage with the theme. The best contributions will be included in a LitFest audio file which will be available to be downloaded from Storytel for free.<\/p>\n<p>There will also be an installation from the <strong>Dubai Audio Library<\/strong> and the Roads and Transport Authority (<strong>RTA<\/strong>), in collaboration with the website\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bookshare.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bookshare.org<\/a>. The Dubai Audio Library targets seven million visually impaired people in the Arab world, and this will be the first time that the process of how books are turned into audio will be on display.<\/p>\n<p>The Festival, which takes place from 1-9 March, is held in partnership with Emirates Airline and the Dubai Culture &amp; Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate\u2019s dedicated authority for heritage, arts, and culture. The Festival begins Dubai Culture\u2019s flagship art initiative Dubai Art Season (DAS), which features a two-month citywide activation of art events.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s Festival theme is \u2018United by Words\u2019, celebrating stories that connect, entertain, inspire and captivate. The exciting programme has something for everyone, with subjects covering all genres of fiction, a huge breadth of non-fiction topics, plus children, family and youth sessions and more, brought to life by more than 170 authors from all over the world.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust like Roald Dahl\u2019s brilliant classic, <em>Charlie and the Chocolate Factory<\/em>, we\u2019ve got five Golden Tickets which give unprecedented access to what we think is one of the best places on earth \u2013 our Festival.\u201d said Ahlam Bolooki, Festival Director. \u201cGolden Ticket holders will be able to immerse themselves in the entire Festival programme, bag the best seats for all their favourites, have their curiosity piqued by the unfamiliar, discover new authors, become intrigued by novel ideas, or maybe uncover a hidden talent. Hear her observations in <em>Dear Madam President: An Open Letter to the Women Who Will Run the World<\/em>. Former private secretary to Nelson Mandela, <strong>Zelda La Grange<\/strong>, is a white Afrikaner who grew up supporting apartheid in segregated South Africa. In this riveting session she explains how Mandela affected her life, and how she grew to respect the man she served for 19 years and came to call &#8216;Khulu&#8217; or \u2018grandfather\u2019. His second novel, <em>Days of Wonder<\/em>, is a story about family, love and finding magic in everyday life. <strong>Rehan Khan<\/strong> will be talking about his historical novel, <em>A Tudor Turk <\/em>and <strong>Abdullah Al Neaimi<\/strong> the Emirati writer, novelist and social commentator, whose books include <em>Espresso, Panision<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>The Moon of Riyadh<\/em> will also be appearing at the Festival. <strong>Clare Mackintosh<\/strong> has won critical acclaim for her taut thrillers, and will be here with her latest work, <em>Let Me Lie<\/em>. Shining a light into the fictional world of espionage is <strong>Charles Cumming,<\/strong> currently working on the script of the second series of the smash hit TV series, <em>The Night Manager<\/em>, who will be talking about his latest novel, <em>The Man Between.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Inspiration, Enlightenment and Exploration<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One of Australia\u2019s most successful fashion designers, <strong>Alannah Hill<\/strong> describes her journey of transformation from a joyless childhood to a dream-come-true career peak of love, loss and reinvention. <strong>Katherine Ormerod<\/strong> explodes our social-media-addled ideas and gives us the tools we need to control our own online lives, rather than being controlled by them. Feeling gauche and awkward?
