A photo exhibition aimed to raise awareness about world hunger opens today at the Dubai International Financial Centre to mark this year\u2019s World Food Day. Created by the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in collaboration with the Dubai\u2019s International Humanitarian City (IHC), the exhibit is debuting as 821 million people around the globe \u2013 one in nine \u2013 go to bed hungry.<\/p>\n
It showcases the assistance WFP provides to people in need, ranging from emergency support following disasters and conflicts, to the use of innovative solutions and technology to deliver on WFP\u2019s mandate of reaching Zero Hunger by 2030.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe celebration of World Food Day is a moment to recognize the issue of world hunger and the tireless efforts we make to save and change people\u2019s lives around the world,\u201d said WFP Director in the UAE and Representative to the GCC region, Mageed Yahia. \u201cWe thank the Government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for their continuous support to WFP, and I also thank the Dubai International Financial Centre for hosting this important event.\u201d<\/p>\n
The UAE is at the forefront of humanitarian assistance and is a long-time supporter of WFP. The International Humanitarian City, chaired by Her Royal Highness Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, hosts WFP\u2019s warehousing facilities in Dubai and is WFP\u2019s largest humanitarian logistics hub. Thanks to the UAE\u2019s generous support, WFP has been able to reach millions of people with food assistance in places like Syria, Bangladesh and Yemen.<\/p>\n

The Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) is the leading financial hub for the Middle East, Africa and South Asia. A key focus of DIFC is the advancement of financial inclusion in the region by fostering financial innovation. For WFP, financial inclusion, such as access to savings, credit and insurance, is key to improving food security of the most vulnerable.<\/p>\n
