Landmark Group,\u00a0the region\u2019s leading\u00a0retail and hospitality organisation,\u00a0was chosen as one of the\u00a0first organisation in the UAE to receive the\u00a0inaugural\u00a0Sports Imprint Award, for\u00a0their\u00a0decade-long\u00a0contribution to the community with the\u00a0Beat Diabetes initiative.<\/p>\n
The award was presented by\u00a0His Highness Sheikh\u00a0Hamdan\u00a0Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council.\u00a0This award is a joint initiative of the Dubai Sports Council and the\u00a0Watani\u00a0Al Emarat Foundation, a public entity organisation, which runs social development\u00a0programmes.<\/p>\n
Receiving the award from the Crown Prince of Dubai, Renuka\u00a0Jagtiani,\u00a0Chairwoman and CEO, Landmark Group, stated, \u201cWe are deeply touched and very thankful to the leadership of the UAE, the Dubai Sports Council and Watani Al Emarat Foundation, for such an honour. Diabetes affects so many families and we as a family have experienced the impact of the condition too \u2013 and therefore this cause is very close to our heart. We started the Beat Diabetes Walk in 2009 to raise awareness of the condition and to educate the community on leading a healthy lifestyle despite the challenges. \u00a0The support we have received over the years from our partners and the participants in the Walk has been truly incredible.\u201d<\/p>\n
Launched under the framework of the Humanitarian Works Awards, this recognition is given to individuals and organisations that act as role models in fostering the culture of wellbeing through sports initiatives for the society at large.<\/p>\n
Started\u00a0in 2009 with an aim to spread awareness on the prevention and management of diabetes across GCC and India, the \u2018Beat Diabetes\u00a0Walk\u00a0has\u00a0grown to be one of the\u00a0most significant events in the region\u2019s health and wellness calendar.\u00a0Through the initiative, Landmark Group conducts year-round programs, community events and media campaigns reaching over 20 million people annually.\u00a0The initiative has even been taken to over 45 schools in the UAE.<\/p>\n
Through the years,\u00a0the initiative has raised over\u00a0AED\u00a03million, donated to Al\u00a0Jalila\u00a0Foundation towards\u00a0diabetes care and research.\u00a0Over half million free blood glucose tests have been conducted in partnership with the Dubai Health Authority and Emirates Diabetes Society.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
