{"id":22497,"date":"2019-09-15T14:37:38","date_gmt":"2019-09-15T10:37:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.dubaicityguide.com\/site\/?p=22497"},"modified":"2019-09-15T14:40:31","modified_gmt":"2019-09-15T10:40:31","slug":"emirates-airline-festival-of-literature-2020-competitions-for-schools-now-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.dubaicityguide.com\/site\/emirates-airline-festival-of-literature-2020-competitions-for-schools-now-open\/","title":{"rendered":"Emirates Airline Festival Of Literature 2020 Competitions For Schools Now Open"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Emirates Airline Festival of Literature has announced the return of its eagerly-contested Chevron Readers\u2019 Cup, which gives students the chance to compete against other schools to in a series of heats, with those with the best knowledge of the selected books going through to the grand finale at the Festival.<\/p>\n<p>The competition is open to full-time students in the GCC (UAE, Oman, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait) and is held in Arabic and English.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur student reading contest really get the participants excited and it is wonderful to see their enjoyment in taking part,\u201d said Ahlam Bolooki, festival director of the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature. \u201cOur aim is to provide a legacy for these children which will give a life-time love of reading.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Participants can register online via the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.emirateslitfest.com\/competitions\/young-peoples-competitions\/readers-cup\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Festival website<\/a>. The final of the competitions will be held at the annual Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, which runs from 4-9 February 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The Festival\u2019s two student writing competitions, the Oxford University Press Story Writing Competition and the Taaleem Award for poetry, are already open for submissions and will close on 6 October 2019. This year the theme for both competitions is \u2018Tomorrow\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The inter-school Chevron Readers\u2019 Cup competition is divided into two age categories \u2013 Primary Schools (up to age 11) and Secondary Schools (ages 12-16). Teams are provided with books written by participating 2019 Festival authors on which the quiz questions are based. After an elimination round, the top 16 teams advance to the final, battling for first place in a live \u2018read-off\u2019 held at the Festival.<\/p>\n<p>Teams can register for the competition online at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.emirateslitfest.com\/competitions\/young-peoples-competitions\/readers-cup\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emirateslitfest.com\/competitions\/young-peoples-competitions\/readers-cup<\/a>. Registrations close on <strong>6<sup>th<\/sup> October 2019<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Almost 3,000 students entered the Readers\u2019 Cup in 2019.
