Dubai Press Club, in collaboration with Emirates Post, announced the issuance of a set of commemorative\u00a0stamps featuring the \u2018Dubai, Capital of Arab Media 2020\u2019 logo.<\/p>\n

The stampshighlightDubai\u2019s leadership in driving regional media industry growth in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. They also highlight the emirate\u2019s status as a vibrant regional and global media hub that is home to more than 4,000 companies from across industry sectors.<\/p>\n

The commemorative stamps, which feature the official logo and various Dubai landmarks, highlight the emirate\u2019s leading role in shaping the development of the UAE and Arab media sector over the last two decades.<\/p>\n

HE Abdulla Mohammed Al Ashram, Group CEO of Emirates Post Group Company,\u00a0<\/strong>said: \u201cThrough our commemorative stamp issuances, we seek to celebrate key achievements that reflect the pathbreaking excellence attained by people and industries in the UAE. Being named \u2018Capital of Arab Media\u2019 is testament to Dubai\u2019s role in galvanising the rapid growth and evolution of the region\u2019s media industry.\u00a0 As part of our support for the country\u2019s development, we seek to mark significant milestones in the growth and progress of media and cultural sectors through such initiatives.\u201d<\/p>\n

Maitha Buhumaid, Director of DPC<\/strong>, said: \u201cThis unique initiative seeks to highlight the country\u2019s role in catalysing media industry growth in the region and Dubai\u2019s achievements as a hub for excellence in the sector. The commemorative stamps honour Dubai\u2019s remarkable journey of success in the media field.\u201d Buhumaid added that His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum\u2019s vision provided the impetus for Dubai to significantly expand its media infrastructure and provide the leadership for creating a dynamic\u00a0industry\u00a0in the Arab world over the last two decades.<\/p>\n

DPC is proud of its vital contributions to Dubai\u2019s media industry, she added. It has played an instrumental part in the emirate\u2019s media industry success story having introduced path-breaking initiatives that have played an integral role in promoting dialogue and knowledge sharing in the region\u2019s media. Amidst today\u2019s challenging circumstances, the Dubai Press Club continues to work to advance the media industry through virtual activities aimed at supporting talent development, she noted.<\/p>\n

Dubai\u2019s Selection<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dubai was selected as the \u2018Capital of Arab Media for 2020\u2019 by the Council of Arab Information Ministers at its 50th session held in Cairo in July 2019 in recognition of its leadership role in Arab media growth. At the forefront of this growth is the TECOM Group\u2019s media clusters, Dubai Media City (DMC), Dubai Studio City (DSC) and Dubai Production City (DPC). Established in 2001, Dubai Media City is home to 2,000 media companies and 33,000 industry professionals from across the region and the world.<\/p>\n

Dubai Press Club, another major player in the growth of the region\u2019s media industry, has launched several initiatives to foster industry excellence. Its major initiatives include the Arab Media Forum (AMF), the region\u2019s largest media gathering; the Arab Journalism Award (AJA); the Emirati Media Forum(EMF); and the Arab Social Media Influencers Club (ASMIC).<\/p>\n

Despite the current global crisis, DPChas continued to collaborate with the Secretariat General\u00a0of the\u00a0Arab League to launch initiatives and projects aimed at promoting the skill development of media professionals.<\/p>\n

Logo<\/strong><\/p>\n

DPCunveiled the logo for Dubai\u2019s title as the \u2018Capital of Arab Media for 2020\u2019 during its 20th anniversary celebrations. The ceremony was held in January in the presence of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and a number of Arab information ministers, prominent officials and members of the media community. Designed by a young Emirati artistReem Al Shamsi, a senior design student at the American University in Dubai, the logo features the title in both English and Arabic in bold letters.<\/p>\n
