Twentieth Century Studios in association with Marvel Entertainment presents\u201cThe New Mutants,\u201d an original horror thriller directed by Josh Boone and written by Boone and Knate Lee. The film releases in the UAE on 10th<\/sup> September.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe New Mutants\u201d stars Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones; Early Man; Then Came You), Anya Taylor-Joy (Peaky Blinders; Split; Glass; Emma), Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things), Alice Braga (The Shack), Blu Hunt (The Originals) and Henry Zaga (13 Reasons Why).<\/p>\n

Rahne Sinclair (Williams), Illyana Rasputin (Taylor-Joy), Sam Guthrie (Heaton) and Roberto De Costa (Zaga) are four young mutants being held in an isolated hospital for psychiatric monitoring. Dr. Cecilia Reyes (Braga), believing the teenagers are a danger both to themselves and to society as a whole, keeps a close eye on them as she struggles to teach them how to reign in their mutant abilities. When newcomer Danielle \u201cDani\u201d Moonstar (Hunt) joins the other patients the facility, strange occurrences begin to take place. The hospital\u2019s patients are plagued by hallucinations and flashbacks, and both their new mutant abilities \u2013 and their friendships \u2013 will be tested as they battle to try and make it out alive.<\/p>\n

Marvel\u2019s first ever horror film, the five new mutants must battle the dangers of their powers, as well as the sins of their pasts, when they find themselves hunted by a supernatural evil, causing all their worst fears to become real.<\/p>\n

The film is produced by Simon Kinberg, best known for his work on the X-Men film franchise, and has also written such films as Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Sherlock Holmes; Karen Rosenfelt of Twilight and Twilight Saga, and Lauren Shuler Donner of Deadpool and Dark Phoenix. American comic book writer, editor, publisher, and producer Stan Lee alongside Michele Imperato Stabile served as executive producers.<\/p>\n

Twentieth Century Studios\u2019 history with the \u201cX-Men\u201d franchise dates back to 2000 and the release of the first \u201cX-Men\u201d film. Producer Simon Kinberg produced six of the titles in the franchise, and Boone knew he was the key to getting a New Mutants project off the ground. \u201cWe wanted it to be a horror story, one that relayed the true horrors of being a teenager in search of themselves,\u201d says Boone, \u201cand he \u2013 above all\u00a0 people \u2013 understands\u00a0 how much we have to push these movies to make them their own unique thing and to have their own unique identity.\u201d<\/p>\n

Together, Boone and Lee pitched Kinberg a female-driven origins narrative with the demon bear storyline as its framework which introduces the New Mutants to a brand new audience. \u201cAlthough we incorporate similar themes from the comics, this is very much its\u2019 own unique story,\u201d says Boone. \u201cThough there are references to the X-Men and our characters know who the X-Men are, this a standalone world where if you took these characters and tried to place them in another \u2018X-Men\u2019 movie, they would seem like outsiders.\u201d<\/p>\n

Adds Lee, \u201cThe New Mutants always stood out to us because the characters and their powers \u2013as well as their back stories \u2013 were just a little bit more screwed up than the rest of the mainline X-Men, and translating their powers and their storylines really lent themselves more towards the horror genre.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2019The New Mutants\u2019 is very much a coming-of-age story about young adults accepting what’s happened in their pasts so they can move forward into the future. We all have a history and past that we have to move beyond, and within this story we wanted to embrace that narrative which provides a strong emotional spine.\u201dsays producer Karen Rosenfelt.<\/p>\n
