{"id":43221,"date":"2021-10-25T12:54:25","date_gmt":"2021-10-25T08:54:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.dubaicityguide.com\/site\/?p=43221"},"modified":"2021-10-25T12:54:25","modified_gmt":"2021-10-25T08:54:25","slug":"dubai-humanitarian-maria-conceicao-has-taken-on-double-ironman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.dubaicityguide.com\/site\/dubai-humanitarian-maria-conceicao-has-taken-on-double-ironman\/","title":{"rendered":"Dubai Humanitarian Maria Conceicao Has Taken On Double Ironman"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A previous winner of the prestigious Emirates Woman of the Year Award (2009) \u2013 former Emirates flight attendant Maria Conceicao \u2013 has\u00a0taken\u00a0on her biggest physical challenge yet for her self-funded charity\u00a0by attempting two\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blowfishmediame.us10.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=9fadf6f541dbc6146790f8bd3&amp;id=a255dbbb27&amp;e=20e6d8d0a7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ironman events in Cascais, Portugal<\/a>\u00a0this month.<\/p>\n<p>The gruelling feat \u2013 which she named the &#8216;Comeback Challenge&#8217; after she faced a range of physical problems including a serious knee injury \u2013 saw\u00a0Maria head to Portugal to attempt a full Ironman, followed by the half Ironman the next day.<\/p>\n<p>Both are official Ironman events; the full Ironman consists of a 3.8km swim, followed by 180km cycle, followed by a full marathon 42.2km run \u2013 the half Ironman involves the same activities but half the distance for each.<\/p>\n<p>Any\u00a0funds raised from this immense physical challenge will go to the Maria Cristina Foundation and be passed on to the impoverished people she has been helping in Bangladesh for over 16 years \u2013 more than a hundred families and over 600 children in total.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I call this the Comeback Challenge because for me it is really a journey that started from zero, from a place one year ago where I felt that I had nothing and could achieve nothing.
