In line with EXPO 2020\u2019sSustainability focus, glass and design leader LASVITis illuminating the Czech PavilionwithGolden Rain<\/em>, an organic six-meter-high groundbreaking installation made entirely of recyclable metal and glass, that marries technology and harmony with nature to showcase the process of manufacturing water from air.<\/p>\n

Golden Rain <\/em>connects the traditional craft of glass making to modern technologies, creating an installation that flows through the pavilion\u2019s two floors, weighing in at a total 1,600 kg. It is wholly composed of dozens of glass pendants which are wrapped in gilded mesh, with 1,000 pieces of additional LED modules and over 800 m of brass mesh used.<\/p>\n

Located at the main entrance of EXPO\u2019sSustainability District,the installation by LASVIT, the Czech Pavilion\u2019s partner at the EXPO 2020,complements the Pavilion\u2019s showcase of creating water from air to make the desert bloom. The S.A.W.E.R. system works on the principle of condensation, transforming the hot desert air into life-giving water. Thanks to its dynamic lighting, LASVIT\u2019s installation pulses with light and gives the impression that water flows down through it and into the building\u2019s inside.<\/p>\n

Golden Rain <\/em>features a color scheme that blends perfectly with the Pavilion\u2019s aesthetic. Its name is furthermore derived from the architectural features of the Pavilion, which show the visible structure, representing the flow of energy and water.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Golden Rain glass installation is shaped like golden lianas and fits into the pavilion\u2019s overall design. The individual \u2018stems\u2019 are reminiscent of the tangled clusters of hosing which wind their way throughout the entire pavilion and allow it to function<\/em>,\u201d explains LASVIT\u2019s Creative Director Maxim Vel\u010dovsk\u00fd, who is also this glass and metal installation\u2019s designer.<\/p>\n

In search of harmony with nature and sustainability<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe gold color which I use in the installation was inspired by the functional system of golden membranes on which the S.A.W.E.R. system condenses water droplets. Those world exhibitions which present technological novelties also present innovations in the sphere of craft, applied art and design. It was my intention to design the decorative part of the exhibition wholly from a technical set of principles and approaches. The resulting composition consists of a special metal mesh which protects the borosilicate glass usually used in laboratories and in scientific research. This decorative component thus consists of technical materials, surfaces and principles, touching base with old tradition<\/em>,\u201d describes Vel\u010dovsk\u00fd.<\/p>\n
