Dubai<\/a> will bring together\u00a0<\/span>some of\u00a0the most prominent\u00a0<\/span>former\u00a0international football stars\u00a0<\/span>at\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span>‘Football Legends Cup<\/span>‘\u00a0match, which will be held in cooperation with the Dubai Sports Council at Al\u00a0<\/span>Nasr Club’s Al\u00a0Maktoum Stadium<\/span>,\u00a0on November 30, 2024<\/span>.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

The much-awaited ‘Football Legends Cup’ will feature two teams \u2013 the Kings XI and Hedge & Sachs \u2013 that will see several former professional footballers who have served some of the best football leagues across Europe during their career.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

The details of the event were announced\u00a0<\/span>at\u00a0a press conference held at Al Nasr Sports Club<\/span>\u00a0in the presence of\u00a0Sheikh Khalifa bin Saeed bin Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, owner of the Kings\u00a0<\/span>XI team,\u00a0Ali Omar Al Balooshi, Director of the Sports Events Department at the Dubai Sports Council, Mohammed Musa, Chairman of the Organizing Committee and Shivansh Ranjit, owner of the Hedge & Sachs team<\/span>.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

Joining the main table were the two team captains –\u00a0Edgar Davids<\/span>\u00a0of Kings XI and John Terry of the Hedge & Sachs team along with teammate Marouane Fellaini.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

Sheikh Khalifa bin Saeed bin Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum\u00a0<\/span>was pleased to be part of such a prestigious match that promises to further propel Dubai’s popularity on the global sporting stage.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

“I am happy to be part of this\u00a0<\/span>event. Since I learned about the organization of this tournament, I have been keen to contribute to it<\/span>s\u00a0success. Sports\u00a0<\/span>is\u00a0an essential part of\u00a0<\/span>our\u00a0community movement, and sport in Dubai receive<\/span>s\u00a0great attention\u00a0<\/span>so that we can\u00a0achieve continuous success\u00a0<\/span>while\u00a0attract<\/span>ing\u00a0international organizers and players. I will work\u00a0<\/span>hard\u00a0to attract distinguished players\u00a0<\/span>into\u00a0<\/span>our Kings XI\u00a0team so that they can\u00a0<\/span>stage\u00a0a great match and win the title\u00a0<\/span>while consolidating Dubai’s position on the world sporting map,” Sheikh Khalifa said.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

DSC’s\u00a0Ali Omar\u00a0<\/span>was pleased with the growth of this event in just a couple of years. “Hosting the tournament in Dubai for the second year in<\/span>–a<\/span>–row confirms Dubai<\/span>‘s position on the map of hosting international events and activities, as well as being a preferred destination for international football stars to meet, communicate and play matches that delight the fans and enhance the position of football. The continuity of th<\/span>is event\u00a0confirms the success of the first edition and provides\u00a0<\/span>everyone\u00a0the means to achieve success for any sporting event<\/span>. We’ve got more than 200 nationalities living in Dubai, who have access to some of the best sporting facilities hosting such high-profile events,” Ali Omar noted.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

“The Dubai Sports Council is keen to provide the means for the success of this\u00a0<\/span>event, and we thank Al Nasr Club for its cooperation and approval to host this\u00a0<\/span>exciting match\u00a0at Al Maktoum Stadium<\/span>.\u00a0The Council always cooperates with various organizers and is keen to enhance cooperation with the private sector. We are confident in the great role that sport play<\/span>s in the life of\u00a0fans\u00a0<\/span>while\u00a0enhanc<\/span>ing and giv<\/span>ing\u00a0young players and youth\u00a0<\/span>an\u00a0opportunity to watch various\u00a0<\/span>high-profile\u00a0sport<\/span>ing\u00a0events throughout the year<\/span>,“<\/span>\u00a0he added.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

Former England skipper and Chelsea star defender\u00a0John Terry\u00a0<\/span>was extremely pleased to be part of such an ambitious event that would bring together some of the top names in the world of football. “I have been a regular to Dubai with my family since the past two decades now. This match is an\u00a0opportunity for me to play\u00a0<\/span>at\u00a0this\u00a0<\/span>impressive stadium before our fans and supporters who have been with us all along.\u00a0I am proud that I am still maintaining my fitness through my work\u00a0<\/span>as a coach. I will be ready for this match and play with\u00a0<\/span>the same\u00a0enthusiasm, especially since the colo<\/span>ur of my team’s shirt\u00a0<\/span>will be\u00a0blue,\u00a0<\/span>– a kind\u00a0remind<\/span>er\u00a0of\u00a0<\/span>my\u00a0Chelsea shirt that I defended for\u00a0<\/span>so\u00a0many years. I hope that\u00a0<\/span>in the end\u00a0we can inspire future generations to achieve sporting achievements and encourage them to practice sports continuously<\/span>,” John Terry observed.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

Ex-Netherlands and Juventus midfielder\u00a0Edgar Davids<\/span>\u00a0will be the captain of the Hedge & Sachs team.\u00a0“I am\u00a0<\/span>sincerely\u00a0looking forward to the challenge of\u00a0<\/span>playing in\u00a0this legendary match\u00a0<\/span>that will see our team\u00a0fac<\/span>e\u00a0John Terry’s team in front of\u00a0<\/span>a stadium-full\u00a0Dubai fans. We promise that we will present a match that will please them<\/span>. It is our aim to\u00a0give the fans the opportunity to enjoy\u00a0<\/span>a truly competitive match,” Davids promised.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

Now 36, former Belgian and Manchester United midfielder\u00a0Marouane Fellaini<\/span>\u00a0promised only the best during the match.\u00a0“I<\/span>t will be one of those rare occasions when John Terry and I will figure in the same team even though we were in two different teams during our professional career.\u00a0I am happy to play in Dubai<\/span>,\u00a0and I am certain that this tournament will be wonderful and strong. Dubai is a wonderful city that I love, and I am very happy to be part of this match\u00a0<\/span>in the\u00a0Hedge & Sachs team<\/span>,“<\/span>\u00a0Fellaini admitted.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n
