More than 1,200 male and female players in varying age groups will be in action when the ‘Sixth Dubai<\/a> Open Basketball Academies Championships’ roll off in Dubai, from September 29.<\/u><\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

Organised by the\u00a0Dubai Sports Council\u00a0<\/span>with an\u00a0aim\u00a0<\/span>of\u00a0enhanc<\/span>ing\u00a0efforts\u00a0<\/span>by\u00a0attract<\/span>ing\u00a0and develop<\/span>ing\u00a0sports talents,\u00a0<\/span>the annual competition will witness at least 80 teams in action in various age categories who will be involved in 300 matches during the first phase that is scheduled to conclude on December 8.<\/u><\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

The second phase of the championship will be held from January until the end of the 2025 sports season.<\/u><\/u><\/span><\/u><\/p>\n

Details of th<\/span>e sixth edition of this annual championship was announced at\u00a0a press conference held at the\u00a0<\/span>DSC\u00a0headquarters<\/span>, on Thursday.<\/u><\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

The announcement was attended by a host of dignitaries including\u00a0Ahmed Salem Al Mahri, Director of the Sports Development Department at Dubai Sports Council, Mohammed Al Hammadi, Executive Director of the UAE Basketball Federation, Bassam Noufal, General Manager of Sport 360 and Qais Omar Al Shabibi, Captain of the UAE\u00a0<\/span>national\u00a0<\/span>team and\u00a0<\/span>star\u00a0<\/span>player\u00a0of the Shabab Al Ahli Basketball Club.<\/u><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

“<\/span>Announcing this competition gives us great pleasure as it falls within the framework of the Dubai Government’s plan for 2033, a<\/span>long\u00a0with the Dubai Sports Council’s policy to attract and develop sports talents.\u00a0<\/span>We have seen in the past that competitions like this\u00a0<\/span>are\u00a0a great platform for our players, from talented to amateurs, to discover their passion for sport. The tournament is also a major source for attracting and developing sports talents in basketball as it provides\u00a0<\/span>teams from\u00a0sports club<\/span>s, private academies and the national team with the best\u00a0<\/span>pool of\u00a0talented players<\/span>,” Ahmed Salem Al Mahri, stated.<\/u><\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

“Our goal is to provide a platform for challenge and fair competition to give clubs and private academies spread across Dubai the opportunity to choose the best talents to join their teams. We<\/span>,\u00a0at the Dubai Sports Council<\/span>,\u00a0will ensure that these talents continue to play and maintain their level until they reach\u00a0<\/span>a\u00a0professional\u00a0<\/span>level,” Al Mahri added<\/span>.<\/u><\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

The DSC official was pleased to have Shabab Al Ahli star player Qais Al Shabibi at the announcement of the event.\u00a0“We thank the UAE Basketball Federation for its efforts in supporting the tournament a<\/span>long with other\u00a0Dubai Sports Council program<\/span>mes. We also thank Sport 360 for providing support to organize this tournament.\u00a0<\/span>And above all, we are\u00a0<\/span>pleased\u00a0to have the captain of the UAE national team, Qais Al Shabibi, who is a model of creative Emirati talent who has excelled with the UAE national team and with Shabab Al Ahli Club<\/span>,” he further noted.<\/u><\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

UAE Basketball Federation’s\u00a0Mohammed Al Hammadi<\/span>\u00a0vouched to continue working hard towards the success of the event.\u00a0“The UAE Basketball Federation is\u00a0<\/span>more than\u00a0pleased to provide all means of support for the success of this tournament<\/span>. Finding and encouraging talent has always been our goal\u00a0since\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0launch<\/span>\u00a0of this particular event, and\u00a0especially\u00a0<\/span>for those players who are\u00a0targeting age groups and academies. We thank the Dubai Sports Council for its continuous efforts to attract and develop<\/span>\u00a0such\u00a0sports talents. We will always be ready to cooperate with the Dubai Sports Council in all their program<\/span>mes<\/span>, especially those\u00a0targeting the academies sector<\/span>. We\u00a0wish success to all players participating in th<\/span>is competition,” Al Hammadi noted.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

Bassam Noufal, General Manager of Sport 360<\/span>, was glad to support such a worthy cause.\u00a0“We thank the Dubai Sports Council for the trust it has\u00a0<\/span>placed in\u00a0us to organi<\/span>se\u00a0<\/span>such an event.\u00a0We are pleased to support\u00a0<\/span>a\u00a0new generation in basketball, and we thank the academies and clubs\u00a0<\/span>for their willingness in\u00a0participating<\/span>. We are assured there\u00a0will be a major development in this tournament, as there will be a<\/span>dequate attention paid\u00a0to identify<\/span>ing outstanding\u00a0talent to help them\u00a0<\/span>achieve\u00a0higher levels in basketball.\u00a0<\/span>There will be several talent scouts from the organizing committee\u00a0<\/span>who\u00a0will be present at all matches\u00a0<\/span>so that\u00a0the best talents\u00a0<\/span>will be in a position\u00a0to join\u00a0<\/span>the special\u00a0talent program<\/span>me\u00a0launched by the Dubai Sports Council<\/span>,“<\/span>\u00a0Noufal said.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

Qais Omar\u00a0<\/span>who is among the stars at Shabab Al Ahli Club’s basketball team was excited to see the fruit of such an event.\u00a0“I thank the Dubai Sports Council for organising\u00a0<\/span>such an event. The participation of\u00a0<\/span>more than 1,200\u00a0male and female players is\u00a0<\/span>already\u00a0a great achievement. I have noticed that the number of participants has been increasing every year since the launch of this tournament, and this is something that makes me proud to be part of this wonderful\u00a0<\/span>growth,” Qais Omar remarked.<\/u><\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

“I thank all those involved in organising this tournament, because\u00a0<\/span>such a\u00a0tournament\u00a0<\/span>can only\u00a0help develop basketball in the country. We hope that this tournament will continue with a<\/span>n\u00a0increase in the number of participants. I encourage families and players to participate in such\u00a0<\/span>competitions\u00a0<\/span>that help\u00a0discover their\u00a0<\/span>innate\u00a0talents and increase their passion for the sport,\u00a0<\/span>something that\u00a0is\u00a0<\/span>such\u00a0an important factor for young people. I also advise young players to follow the instructions of their coaches and focus more on playing and performing\u00a0<\/span>to their best simply\u00a0because the coach knows what is best for us. Th<\/span>is\u00a0competition is also developing every day and they must keep up with this development and maintain their motivation and drive to reach the podium<\/span>,” he added.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

Players from different age groups from 8 to 18 year old<\/span>s\u00a0will participate in the tournament. The<\/span>\u00a0players\u00a0will be divided into several groups in each category, with each group\u00a0<\/span>consisting\u00a0not less than\u00a0<\/span>six\u00a0teams.<\/u><\/u><\/span><\/u><\/p>\n

Matches will\u00a0be\u00a0<\/span>conducted\u00a0three days\u00a0<\/span>a\u00a0week, and\u00a0<\/span>games will be supervised by referees accredited by the UAE Basketball Federation.<\/u><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
