Dubai<\/a> Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) has announced the launch of the \u2018Stories of Wulfa\u2019 competition to develop and produce an animated series inspired by Emirati culture, values, and traditions, empowering talent to transform their ideas into creative content that resonates with diverse audiences. The initiative comes as part of Dubai Culture\u2019s support for the \u2018Season of Wulfa,\u2019 which celebrates Emirati social and cultural occasions while strengthening family bonds. It also reflects the Authority\u2019s commitment to fostering a creative environment that supports visual storytelling and animation, encouraging talent to transform ideas into original works that contribute to the growth of the cultural and creative industries and reinforce Dubai\u2019s position as a global centre for the creative economy.<\/p>\n

Through the competition, Dubai Culture seeks to produce an animated series comprising 15 episodes, each approximately 20 minutes long, reflecting Emirati culture and its authentic values. Participants can draw inspiration from themes associated with the \u2018Season of Wulfa,\u2019 including everyday life, family relationships, hospitality traditions, Hag Al Laila, Ramadan, Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha, as well as majlis culture and community gatherings, local heritage and folklore, oral storytelling traditions, traditional games and historical figures. Concepts may also explore stories that blend technology and tradition, as well as other themes rooted in Emirati culture.<\/p>\n

Shaima Rashed Al Suwaidi, CEO of the Arts, Design and Literature Sector at Dubai Culture<\/b><\/strong>, highlighted that the \u2018Stories of Wulfa\u2019 competition embodies the objectives of the \u2018Season of Wulfa\u2019 in celebrating Emirati culture and reflects the Authority\u2019s commitment to empowering local talent to draw inspiration from cultural heritage and transform it into original creative works capable of reaching diverse audiences. She said: \u201cInvesting in original content is a fundamental pillar in advancing the cultural and creative industries and a key driver for the growth of the animation sector. It also empowers national talent to produce works that reflect the distinct character of Emirati society and can compete regionally and globally. Through this initiative, we seek to support the development of high-quality content that carries the spirit of Dubai and shares its stories with the world through an innovative visual language, reinforcing its position as a global centre for culture.\u201d<\/p>\n

Al Suwaidi affirmed that animation has an exceptional ability to strengthen cultural identity and transform local stories into human experiences that resonate with audiences across cultures, encouraging creatives to explore the richness of Emirati culture and produce works that express its authentic values and traditions.<\/p>\n

Dubai Culture has invited artists, independent creatives, writers, illustrators, directors, designers, filmmakers, animation studios, production companies, and local, regional and international creative teams to submit original concepts that embody the spirit of \u2018Wulfa,\u2019 reflect the values of belonging and family and community connection, and showcase the richness of Emirati cultural heritage. Applications will be accepted from 7 September to 15 November 2026. Submissions will be assessed according to a set of criteria, including storytelling quality, cultural authenticity and originality, visual direction and character development, relevance to Emirati culture, production readiness, and broadcast potential. The winning project will receive AED 2 million in funding to support its development, production, and showcase as part of the \u2018Season of Wulfa.\u2019<\/p>\n

Submissions must present innovative concepts distinguished by strong storytelling and character development, reflect the richness and diversity of Emirati culture, and have the ability to engage different segments of society. Each submission must include a comprehensive series brief that outlines the concept, creative vision, key themes, target audience, educational and cultural value, storytelling approach, character development, and potential for future expansion, along with a complete script for the first episode and synopses for the remaining episodes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
