4 Million trafic violations in UAE in 2006
Over four million traffic violations marred safety on the roads of the UAE during the year 2006, according to an alarming statistics revealed by the National Transport Authority in Abu Dhabi.
‘Al Ittihad’ Arabic daily quoted the Director General of the Authority Dr. Nasser Al Mansouri as saying that the government has evolved a strategy to cut down the rate of traffic violations by 10pc during the current year, 20pc by 2009 and 30pc by 2010.
Al Mansouri said that the strategy has also an aim to bring down the number of road accidents caused by trucks.
New regulations are in the pipeline to change the present traffic scenario and once they are implemented, the road mishaps will substantially be reduced, according to Mansouri.
He added that the railway lines and water transport will also contribute to the improvement of the overall transport system in the country.
