The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is underscoring its commitment to developing partnerships with the Gulf actors by opening a permanent branch office in the International Humanitarian City in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). NRC continuously aims at strengthening and building up partnerships with global humanitarian actors with a goal to maximize effective ways to alleviate the suffering of the most vulnerable refugees and displaced populations.

“I am happy to announce that NRC has been officially registered in the IHC. This will strengthen our on-going work with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) actors with whom NRC is developing institutional partnerships. Together, I believe we can assist more people in need,” the acting Secretary General of NRC, Ms. Toril Brekke said.

The IHC was established by HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai in 2003 and grown to become the world’s largest and busiest logistics hub for humanitarian aid with 9 UN agencies and 44 NGOs and commercial entities.

The International Humanitarian City is a first-of-its kind global humanitarian hub. It puts Dubai’s expertise in transport and logistics to work for aid agencies as they reach out to help the victims of crises and families whose lives are scarred by hunger and poverty. The IHC’s capabilities and strategic location” within eight hours by air to two-thirds of the world’s population” have helped deliver assistance in some of the worst humanitarian crises of the past decade.
