Qindeel Printing, Publishing and Distribution, the publishing arm of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF), has revealed details of its agenda for the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale 2019, taking place in Dubai Studio City on October 10-20, 2019.

Qindeel organised an event to launch the exhibition at Dubai’s Al Safa Library, in the presence of MBRF’s CEO His Excellency Jamal bin Huwaireb, and Andrew Yap, Founder of the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale, along with several representatives of media outlets around the country. During the ceremony, Qindeel showcased the list of events it will be hosting at its pavilion, where it is the first Arab entity to provide Arabic content for the exhibition. Qindeel will be taking part for the second year in a row, following the great success of its first participation in the event last year, where it sold more than 70,000 books in Arabic from participating Arab publishing houses.

In his address at the event, H.E. bin Huwaireb asserted that Qindeel Printing, Publishing and Distribution is looking forward to making a strong impression in its second year of participating at the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale. H.E. described the exhibition as a leading knowledge event that offers a prominent platform bringing international best sellers at affordable prices, and promotes reading with a wide collection of books and publications catering to all members of the community.

“The strategies and initiatives of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation centre around one main objective: producing and promoting knowledge, and supporting the Arabic language across all platforms,” H.E. bin Huwaireb. “With that in mind, we were keen on taking part in the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale for a second year as a Knowledge Partner, in charge of providing outstanding Arabic content for all readers.”

H.E. went on to explain that Qindeel has expanded its participation from last year, where its pavilion at the 2019 edition will be presenting a collection of Arabic-language books from 24 local publishers and 18 international ones. The total number of books on offer is half a million, with 6,000 titles covering all sectors.

For his part, Andrew Yap said: “Reading develops our thought process; it gives us unlimited knowledge and keeps our minds active. We are committed to promoting reading in the community, and with that in mind, we return to Dubai again this year with the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale and three million books. We are confident that we will have books to cater to every taste, inspire people to fulfil their dreams, and empower them with knowledge by making books accessible to everyone.”

Qindeel’s pavilion at the exhibition includes activities by the Dubai International Programme for Writing, ‘Esteraht Sayedat’, the ‘Bil Arabi’ initiative, and the Arab Professionals Forum. The publisher will organise a series of discussion panels, workshops, and book signings. The publications that will be showcased at the event cover various subjects, including: literature, children’s books, novels, general knowledge, and self-development.

The Big Bad Wolf 2019 exhibition in Dubai offers a wide variety of affordable books with discounts ranging from 50% to 80%. Qindeel offers an additional discount of 5% to students to stimulate and encourage people of all ages to explore the pleasure of reading.

The books on display include fiction, non-fiction and young adult novels, as well as a collection of children’s books. Last year’s edition of the event welcomed more than 150,000 visitors over 11 days.

The Big Bad Wolf Book Sale is more than just a book sale, it is a reading advocacy organisation. The brainchild of BookXcess founders Andrew Yap and Jacqueline Ng, the event has been a landmark event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia since 2009 and is currently celebrating its 10th Anniversary with a series of book sales across the country. The Sale has also toured across cities abroad in Thailand, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Taiwan, the UAE, Korea, Myanmar, and Pakistan with no plans to stop in making reading affordable for readers around the world.
