The UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science (UAEREP) announced its participation in the 21st edition of WETEX 2019, the leading global water, energy, technology and environment exhibition organised by Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance of the UAE and President of DEWA.

As part of its participation at WETEX, set to run from 21 to 23 October in Dubai, UAEREP will showcase its key achievements in rain enhancement science and research through actively contributing towards regional and global water security.

His Excellency Dr Abdulla Al Mandous, Executive Director of NCM and President of the Regional Association II (Asia) of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), said: “We are pleased to participate in the upcoming edition of WETEX, which has played a significant role in reinforcing the UAE’s status as a global hub for leading experts and decision makers to discuss pressing topics related to water, energy and environment.”

“UAEREP’s participation in WETEX 2019 is aimed at highlighting the efficient role of our rain enhancement program in advancing rain-enhancement research and development to ensure water security across the globe. The UAE is committed to pursuing its efforts to find innovative solutions to address water scarcity issues worldwide.

“The UAE has been recognized globally as a forerunner in rain enhancement research owing to its achievements in implementing successful cloud seeding operations. Since its inception in 2015, the program has been taking a keen interest in participating in various local, regional and international conferences and specialized events to enhance its collaboration with leading researchers and scientists. In doing so, we seek to improve the efficiency of cloudseeding operations in addressing water security and sustainability challenges,” Al Mandous added.

The UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science (UAEREP) is a global research initiative launched under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, and managed by the National Center of Meteorology (NCM). At WETEX, UAEREP will provide visitors with an overview of the nine research projects that received grants over the three cycles of the program, the achievements of the awardees and their contribution to the advancement of rain enhancement research. Furthermore, visitors will gain valuable insight into the importance of cloud-seeding technologies in addressing water scarcity challenges and ensuring a sustainable future for the generations to come.

For her part, Alya Al Mazroui, Director of the UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science, said: “WETEX serves as an excellent platform to engage with leading experts and explore the latest technologies and innovations in water, energy and environment. In participating in this event, we aim to highlight UAEREP’s achievements in supporting global research efforts in rain enhancement, as water scarcity has become a pressing issue that calls for concerted efforts to provide efficient and technologically-feasible solutions such as cloud seeding.”

Established as an excellent platform as one of the largest and most prominent exhibitions in water, energy and environment sectors, WETEX has become a firm fixture on the calendars of exhibitors, visitors, experts, specialists and decision makers. The event offers an unprecedented opportunity to capitalize on the tremendous investment opportunities available within these vital sectors, as well as to network with industry influencers, specialists, and decision makers from across the globe.
