Olympic Champion and World Record Holder, Cameron Van Der Burgh, and Emirati Swimming Legend Saeed Al Jasmi are confirmed as the 2019 Ambassadors for the UAE’s leading family swimming festival – the Daman DXB SwimFest, presented by JA The Resort.

The Daman DXB SwimFest was hugely successful last year with over 1,000 swimmers taking part. The event was hosted by South African and multiple World and Olympic champion, Chad Le Clos, along with the UAE’s Al Jasmi brothers.

Fellow South African and 2019 International Ambassador, Cameron van der Burgh,  won his first Olympic gold medal in the 100m breaststroke at the 2012 Olympics, breaking the World Record in the process. He still holds both the world short-course 50m and 100m breaststroke World Records and has won more than a dozen World Championship medals across both the long and short course throughout his career.

The South African star was crowned champ once again in the 2018 Short Course World Championships, where he won two gold medals before announcing his retirement from the sport. In the last swim of his career Van der Burgh touched first in the 50m breaststroke with a world record of 25.41 – his second fastest performance ever, overshadowed only by his own world record from 2009.

Cameron commented: “I am honoured to be hosting the second Daman DXB SwimFest on 9th November. Sport has changed my life for the better and it is fantastic to have the chance to share my passion with swimmers of all ages & abilities in the UAE. The parent and child relay will be a lot of fun for families and the Dubai Mile to the JA The Resort Half Mile will provide an exciting challenge for swimmers of all abilities.”

“I am really looking forward to everyone join us at JA The Resort. The venue and facilities are world-class and what better way to spend the day after a morning swim than relaxing on the beach at JA The Resort! It is guaranteed to be incredible day for an open water swim!” added van der Burgh.

Van der Burgh will be joined by and Emirati Swimming Legend Saeed Al Jasmi. Saeed and his brothers were ambassadors last year for the launch of the Daman DXB SwimFest. “The Daman DXB SwimFest is a fantastic open water event for kids, families, keen amateurs and elite athletes. I am delighted to be involved again” commented Al Jasmi.

Sponsored by the National Health Insurance Company Daman, organised by Professional Sports Group, and sanctioned by the UAE Swimming Federation & Dubai Sports Council, the Daman DXB SwimFest allows the entire community to engage in healthy and active lifestyles, particularly encouraging children to get into swimming.
