In line with its commitment to the health, safety, dignity and welfare of all workers, Al Naboodah Construction Group (ANCG), the construction division of Al Naboodah Group Enterprises, was recognised by Expo 2020 Dubai for the company’s ongoing efforts to advance worker welfare at the second annual Better Together Awards.

The event, held in Dubai at The Address Montgomerie on December 11, 2019, celebrated the successes of individuals and organisations involved in the delivery of Expo 2020,  which included achieving an exemplary health and safety performance, providing the workforce with good standards of accommodation and ensuring world-class employment practices.

Commenting on the awards, Senan Al Naboodah, Managing Director of ANCG, said: “Employee welfare is an integral goal of our own sustainability framework. Dynamic partnerships between governments, organisations and institutions like Expo 2020, which focus on improving the lives of all residents, are critical to our collective future. Al Naboodah Construction Group was awarded:

  • Subcontractor of the Year Award (1st place) for Trans Gulf Electromechanical: The award-winning MEP business of Al Naboodah Construction Group that uses a sustainable methodology with innovative ideas to ensure compliance and drive improvement in association with SHEQ and Welfare standards.
  • Health & Safety Initiative of the Year Award (1st place) for ‘ZERO-STRIKE-360’: An initiative by Al Naboodah Construction Group designed to raise awareness on the dangers of working with (or in close proximity to) construction vehicles and/or heavy plant and equipment.
  • Worker Welfare Impact of the Year Award (1st place) for Manzoorudeen KK: As the Facilities Manager for Al Naboodah Construction Group, Manzoorudeen has demonstrated unfailing dedication to the welfare of ANCG’s workforce in over 30 years of service
  • Environment Initiative of the Year (Runner-Up) for ‘Bin Less, Recycle More’: A Responsible Consumption initiative by Al Naboodah Construction Group’ that aims to reduce overall waste and in some areas reach zero waste by streamlining data collection in order to better understand waste streams and thereby improve efficiency.

The ceremony was attended by more than 300 people, including Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director General, Expo 2020 Dubai Bureau, and members of the Expo 2020 Dubai Sub-Committee on Worker Welfare.

More than 160 million work hours have been completed to date on the Expo 2020 site, with 34,000 workers currently on site. At the peak of construction, there were 40,000 workers on site.
