Composer and Musician. Born in 1973. B.A. in music composition, Tokyo University of the Arts. In 2002 Shibuya established ATAK, a music label releasing CDs of cutting-edge electro-acoustic works by various artists from all over the world. He has produced a lot of music works, for example film music, sound installation, etc.

In 2012 he released the Vocaloid Opera “THE END” starring Hatsune Miku, without any human beings. In 2018 he released Android Opera ”Scary Beauty”, a humanoid android with AI conducts a human orchestra and sings with them. In 2019 September, he released Buddhist Chant: Shomyo + Electronic sounds “Heavy Requiem” through collaboration with Japanese traditional monk Eizen Fujiwara at Ars Electronica in Linz, Austria. He creates his music to explore the border between human beings and technology with a broad range of work such as piano solo, electronic music and opera.

He has collaborated with various artists and scientists such as Hiroshi Sugimoto at the Palais de Tokyo in France, Hiroshi Ishiguro, a robotic researcher, and Jérémie Bélingard, Etoile of Opéra de Paris. Also, he has been working with Takashi Ikegami, a researcher of Artificial Life, in collaboration and development with noise and stereophonic sound for more than 15 years.

In 2020 September, he made music for the movie called “Midnight Swan” which was successful and already seen by 500,000 people in Japan. He released an album “ATAK024 Midnight Swan” as a soundtrack and achieved No.1 in soundtrack chart for weeks soon after its release. He won the Mainichi Film Award for Best Music and the Japan Movie Critics Award for Best Film Music.

In 2021 August, he as a composer announced new opera “Super Angels” (Conductor: Kazushi Ono, Writer: Masahiko Shimada) at New National Theater, Japan. He will have a world premiere of new Android Opera “MIRROR” at EXPO 2020 Dubai.

    Performed in the one of the largest media art festivals in the world at Ars Electronica. Heavy Requiem was a finale of AI x Music Festival there.
