Azizi Developments, a leading private developer in the UAE, has doubled its contribution to the One Billion Meals initiative to AED 100 million, making its donation the largest of all. The One Billion Meals initiative is a social movement driven by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, that is purposed to curb global hunger in underserved communities. The announcement comes in light of Azizi’s diverse philanthropic efforts across sustainability, social inclusion, equality, and global health, among others.

The developer’s contribution will secure food parcels that are sent to the disadvantaged in 50 countries across four continents during the holy month of Ramadan, as part of the initiative organised by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI).

In his comments, Mr Mirwais Azizi, Founder and Chairman of Azizi Developments, said: “We have decided to double our contribution to this very important social movement out of respect, admiration, and appreciation for the wise leadership and remarkable humanitarian devotion of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. It is His Highness’highly commendable philanthropic drive that inspires us to give back and contribute to the greater good.”

“The One Billion Meals campaign is undoubtedly the single most powerful, effectual initiative of its kind in the realm of curbing global hunger. With over 800 million people around the world suffering from undernourishment, it is up to each and every one of us to contribute to securing a brighter future in which all of humanity has access to vital, healthy nutrition. We will stand steadfast with this cause for years to come, and with the notion in mind that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, we encourage participation to ensure a happier, healthier tomorrow for those in need”, he continued.

The One Billion Meals endowment campaign reflects the 9th principle of the “Principles of the 50”, which states that “the UAE’s foreign humanitarian aid is an essential part of its own vision and moral duty towards less fortunate nations. Our foreign humanitarian aid is not tied to religion, race, colour, or culture”.

The initiative is launched simultaneously with the holy month of Ramadan, which is marked by togetherness and the spirit of giving,to encourage individuals and public and private entities to donate and support the cause. The series of food campaigns started with the locally held ‘10 MillionMeals’ that supported COVID-19-hit communities across the UAE throughout Ramadan in 2020. The movement has since gained traction and is going international, with it now covering 50 countries and providing one billion meals.
