Celebrating the women of International Women’s Day, the Luxembourg Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai invites visitors and residents to be inspired by Luxembourg’s progressive past, present, and future visionaries. Marking the achievements of these exceptional women, the pavilion is inviting visitors to Expo 2020 to expand their minds and connect at this insightful exhibition held from 6th to 9th March.

Rippling through the centuries the accomplishments of these prominent women are remarkable and are celebrated in three series: inspiring women of the past, inspiring women of the present, inspiring women of the future. The exhibition is an immersive journey that urges to learn from the leaders of the past while also honoring the extraordinary feats of present and future women.

Ranging from field of politics to culinary arts, sports and theater, visitors will be able discover the stories of prominent figures such as Aline Mayrisch-De Saint-Hubert, Aline Mayrisch-De Saint-Hubert, Charlotte Grande-Duchesse De Luxembourg, Anise Koltz, Dr Marie-Paule Molitor-Peffer, Colette Flesch, Désirée Nosbusch, Léa Linster, Christine Majerus, Lea Schroeder, Lea Schroeder and Vicky Krieps. Each influential figure tells a story of unimaginable resilience, courage and an incredible insight worth knowing.

Among others, visitors will be able to discover the stories of:

Marguerite Thomas-Clement: Marguerite Thomas-Clement was the first woman elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 1919. She is also the first woman elected to the Municipal Council of the City of Luxembourg in 1920 and 1924 and was the first female alderman of the same council. As a ground-breaking leader and influential statesperson, Marguerite Thomas-Clement paved the way for female politicians in Europe.

Désirée Nosbusch: Celebrated for her contribution to Luxembourg’s arts scene, Désirée Nosbusch is a moderator and presenter for radio and television and an internationally acclaimed actress and director. She is an inspiration to every young woman looking towards a career within the creative industries.

Christine Majerus: As the 2016 world champion in team cycling time trials and the world vice-champion of the team time trials in 2015, 2017 and 2018, Christine Majerus is a force to be reckoned with. Luxembourg’s sporting scene is abuzz with stories of her accomplishments.

As part of the celebrations, the Pavilion will also host a closed-door Avant-premiere on 8th March of Inspiring Women of Luxembourg – Past, Present and Future. Directed by Anne Schroeder, this film follows the stories of above twelve pioneering women who helped pave the way to a more empowered future for Luxembourg’s women. With the aim of inspiring conversations and connections, the premiere will be followed by a networking session allowing local women to invoke a bond with their Luxembourgish counterparts.
