The Emirates Airline Festival of Literature kicked of its sixth day, filled with sessions and workshops from some of the world’s leading authors.

Highlights of the day included the announcement of the School Librarian of the Year Awards 2019 winners. The awards recognise those Librarians who have demonstrated outstanding commitment in sharing their love of literature and promoting reading for pleasure among the community whilst also raising and literacy standards in the school. The winners were Mary Rose Grieve, Hartland International School, Dubai and Halima Khalfan Salem Alnagbi, Omair Bin Abi Waqas School for Basic Education in Sharjah.

Authors Kate Young, Nathan H. Lents, Taleb Alrefai and Vince Beiser debated the age old questions: fact or fiction? The great debate had Professor of Biology and author of Human Errors, Dr. Nathan H. Lents joined by journalist Vince Beiser author of The World in a Grain. Team Fact had Kuwaiti journalist Taleb Alrefai, joined by Kate Young, author of The Little Library Cookbook.

Tony Blackburn put on an unforgettable evening with a trip down memory lane. Guest enjoyed a three-course meal and conversation which plunged headfirst into a Murder Mystery inspired by Tony’s early radio days and created by the talented Alex Broun and some of Dubai’s finest theatre talent. Veteran radio presenter Mark Lloyd also chatted to him about his life and career highlights.
