DP World, UAE Region has joined forces with other partners to sponsor the 23rd Rashid Summer Camp, a month long health and fitness program for young people.

The event was co-sponsored by Dubai Investments, Al Baddad International, and SAHARA Communications as part of the regional trade enabler’s support of the community. The Camp is held every summer, highlighting teamwork, cooperation and leadership skills that are needed to succeed in today’s world.

This year’s topics include tackling obesity and related health issues in children, healthy nutrition and self-defense activities such as as karate and taekwondo. The new features follow a goal in the Dubai Plan 2021, to improve UAE society by promoting a healthier lifestyle.

The camp’s administration introduced awareness programs to teach children the value of healthy living with lessons on health and nutrition, while also encouraging participants to eat healthy foods. These lessons also talked about non-nutritious foods and the health risks associated with them, such as diabetes and high cholesterol.

Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO, DP World, said:

“Initiatives such as this play an important role in shaping the character of young people as they mature into responsible adults.  We believe it helps them learn teamwork and leadership skills that are essential in today’s world.

“We believes in working with our communities through programs such as the Rashid Summer Camp, which has been doing a commendable job over the years. We will continue to lend our support to such initiatives to help build a better future for Emirati society.”

Other activities at the camp included horse riding, shooting and swimming, in addition to cultural and educational topics. An attendee satisfaction questionnaire was prepared for Salama magazine by the Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA) together with a children’s health awareness competition and a photo captioning contest. A raffle was also held with the winners receiving tickets for a trip to Dubai Parks and Resorts.
