In the spirit to #KeepOnGiving and of coming together as a community, du, from Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (EITC), is calling on people from all over the UAE to join in its flagship annual Mawaed al Rahman volunteer initiative. The initiative, in line with the Year of Zayed, brings volunteers together to distribute boxes of essential food items to thousands of underprivileged families across the UAE so they can enjoy hearty and home cooked iftars throughout the holy month.

“Ramadan is all about compassion, reflection, and togetherness – and what better way to observe all of these values than by spending a day volunteering for the benefit of those who are less fortunate?” said Abdulwahed Juma, Executive Vice President of Branding and Communication at du. “This Ramadan, we are continuing our Mawaed al Rahman initiative as we continually strive to better serve the communities we operate in, to give the opportunity to everyone to strengthen their social responsibility and to assist families in need across the UAE. We have seen how this programme has brought people together in past years and the positive effect it has had on the receiving families, and we look forward to another successful year as we encourage people in our community to keep on giving.”

This year, Mawaed Al Rahman coincides with the Year of Zayed launched by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, and which focuses on the four pillars of wisdom, respect, sustainability, in addition to human development and instilling his values across the community including values of tolerance and charity.

Each year, du’s Mawaed al Rahman initiative sees participation from du customers, staff, and the general public. In 2017, working with Tarahum Charity foundation, the initiative provided more than 16,000 boxes of food items to more than 5,000 families in need. Almost 1,500 volunteers helped pack the boxes and distribute them to households in Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, UAQ, RAK, Fujairah, and Wadi Madha. Among last year’s volunteers were du’s CEO and His Excellency Dr. Thani Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment for the UAE.

This year’s Mawaed al Rahman initiative will take place from 20th May to 2nd June. For more information and to register as a volunteer, please visit du.ae/ramadan.
