Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, announced that Dubai is hosting the first green economy summit in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region on 15th and 16th April 2014, to complement the sustainable future vision of the U.A.E and the global efforts to combat climate change. Al-Tayer, in a press conference in Dubai, said the “World Green Economy Summit”, scheduled under the theme “Global Partnerships, Sustainable Future”, is in line with the “Green Economy For Sustainable development” initiative, announced last year by Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, as a national strategy to help make the U.A.E. a world leader in the field of green economy, and a global centre for exporting and re-exporting green technologies and products. Al-Tayer added that the first green economy summit in the Middle East and North Africa region promises to bring together government, business and finance leaders to forge global partnerships and provide paths to a sustainable future for humanity” said Al Tayer. “The UAE is the first country in the MENA region to commit to a green economy strategy and Dubai is leading the region in green infrastructure investment from renewable energy and green building to public transport and green technologies,” al-Tayer added.

The “World Green Economy Summit” is supported by Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, the organization the leads Dubai’s transition to a green and low-carbon economy across all strategic economic sectors and developers of the 1000 MW Mohamed Bin Rashid Solar Park project due to open its first phase later this month.

The forthcoming summit is being organized in association with “Dubai Green Economy Partnership” a global initiative which was launched last year by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, attracting leading public and private local and international partners promoting green trade and investment in a region of more than two billion consumers.
