In a true reflection of the highest values of the holy month of Ramadan, Dubai Cares volunteers have successfully packed 50,000 school kits during a 4-day volunteering initiative that took place at the Dubai World Trade Center between 18 and 21 May 2019. H.E. Hessa Bint Essa Buhumaid, Minister of Community Development, H.E. Ibrahima Sory Sylla, Ambassador of Senegal, H.E. Ali Jabir Mwadini, Consul General of Tanzania and along with H.E. Tariq Al Gurg, Chief Executive Officer at Dubai Cares joined the UAE community in packing the school kits.

Dubai Cares’ “Back to School” edition of Volunteer Emirates brought together 2,000 volunteers in an effort to pack essential school supplies for underprivileged schoolchildren. Following this initiative, 30,000 of these school kits will be distributed to school children in Kaolak, Senegal and 20,000 will be distributed to school children in Zanzibar, Tanzania prior to the start of the new school year.

Commenting on what has become a staple event in the Ramadan calendar in Dubai, Tariq Al Gurg, Chief Executive Officer at Dubai Cares, said: “We are extremely grateful for the overwhelming response of hundreds of volunteers who joined us every single day of the initiative. Just the mere fact that their participation is taking place during the Holy month of Ramadan, gives their effort and dedication a whole new meaning. It is also very heartwarming to see the volunteers work and bond together as they put together not only a school kit, but a donation to thousands of underprivileged children who will forever remember and cherish. I invite all volunteers to share their experience and help us make this initiative even more successful.”
