Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture)announced the Visual Arts Programme for May 2021, in cooperation with Akaas Visual Arts, in which the Authority will host a group of artists and specialists to present a variety of lectures and art workshops to enhance the skills of photography and visual arts enthusiasts as well as to enrich their knowledge about its various aesthetics and techniques.

During the month, participants will gain access to various artistic, applied and knowledge lectures and workshops targeting young people 18 and older, whereby they will be introduced to the latest methods and techniques used in the art of photography and acrylics. This comes in line with Dubai Culture’sstrategic pillar aimed at empowering young talents with innovative technical skills that are easy to apply.

On 8 May, which is the programme’s first day, the ‘Drone is a culture and art’ lecture will be presented by artist Moosa Al Raisi at Akaas Visual Arts at 9:00 p.m.whose aim would be to increase public awareness of the use of drones and their artistic benefit. Al Raisiwill also introduce participants to the basics of operating drones and how to obtain licences.

At 11 a.m. on 21 May, artists Jassim Rabieand Faisal Alrais will present the ‘Scanography’ lecture, which will be held at Al Safa Art & Design Library. They will provide an opportunity for the public to explore the horizons of creating new photography concepts and using unconventional tools in the field by harnessing the potential of the scanner.

As for the workshops, the ‘Abstract Art with Acrylic Colors’ workshop will be held 11 a.m. on 22 May at Al Safa Art & Design Library, hosted by artist Abeer Al Eidani, who will introduce participants to the general concepts of acrylic colours and the art of abstraction. She will also introduce them to the technique of using acrylic colours with water on canvas to obtain a distinctive piece of art, while giving them the opportunity to create their own effects using a water spray.

The workshop will host five participants over two hours at a rate of AED 250 per person, and the necessary tools will be provided by Akaas Visual Arts.

The programme of the month will conclude with an external, intermediate workshop on street photography under the supervision of artist Faisal Alrais, who will introduce participating photographers to the style and advantages of this type of photography as well as to its types and some of its pioneers. He will also provide them with a valuable opportunity to practice their photography in old Dubai areas using their digital cameras.
