Dubai Culture Announces Reading Workshops Under A Special Programme Across Its Public Libraries
To mark the National Reading Month, Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) has announced the launch of special a programme with reading, education, and entertainment workshops across its Dubai Public Library branches to be held from 13th 31stMarch 2022.
This initiative falls within the framework of Dubai Culture’s keenness to activate the annual National Reading Month, under the theme ‘UAE Reads’ as per the Ministry of Culture and Youth. It also comes as an affirmation of the active role played by the Authority in inculcating the habit of reading among citizens and residents of the UAE, and making it a way of life for them.
The programme will provide a variety of interesting and fun educational workshops aimed at encouraging children to engage in reading and writing. The workshops will be available in both Arabic and English, in harmony with the societal fabric in the emirate.
Hor Al Anz Library has prepared a series of innovative workshops for children aged 6-12, including a Cultural Day and Heritage Day under the title ‘Mid of Sha’ban’ to be held on 17thMarch as well as a reading workshop on honouring parents, coinciding with Mother’s Day on 21stMarch. The library will also hosta creative workshop with ‘Sabah Dibi’ to teach children how to write short stories under the title ‘How do I write a story outside the box?’ on 17thMarch, in addition to other workshops including story telling with clay, writing in Arabic and the benefits of cupping. All these workshops will be held between 2 to 3 pm.
Al Safa Art and Design library will host a children’s workshop on 13thMarch introducing them to the most prominent young Emirati writers in celebration of Emirati Children’s Day, accompanied by an interactive reading session. Adults will also be able to enjoy a poetry night with Emirati poet Ahmed Al-Asam on 17thMarch from 7 – 8 pm.
Al Rashidiya Library will host a variety of interesting workshops in both Arabic and English, including story readings with writer Maryam Jamal, heritage activities in ‘Mid of Sha’ban’, and a short drama about honouring parents on the occasion of Mother’s Day, in addition to a reading of the ‘Be Happy’ story on International Day of Happiness accompanied by an art workshop.
At Al Twar Library, youngsters will be able to interact with the Arabic ‘Bahjhat Al Harouf’ workshop and write Arabic calligraphy on 14 March. Al Twar Library will also run the sixth edition of the used book fair from 21stto 31stMarch, where all proceeds will go to a charitable organisation. This initiative aims to make books accessible to everyone and encourage the purchase of books at low prices.
Meanwhile, Al Mankhool Library will also host innovative interactive readings in Arabic and English for its children, accompanied by an art workshop with writer and artist Simar Halawani on 17thMarch from 10 – 11 am.
Creative writing and art enthusiasts will be invited to attend the ‘Letter Writing’ workshop at Umm Suqeim Library on 15thMarch, during which they will learn the art of writing letters and designing envelopes, presented by writers Nadia Al-Najjar and Noura Khoury, in addition to a cultural session during which children will celebrate the ‘Haq Al Laila’ event on 20thMarch as well as another session on 27thMarch to mark the International Day of Happiness.
At Hatta Library, children and young adults will be able to enjoy workshops on Arabic calligraphy and others to enrich their imaginations in commenting on pictures and enriching their vocabulary with words from the Emirati heritage, in addition to various cultural competitions. The library programme spreads from 28th – 31stMarch.
