Abu Dhabi Health Services Company(SEHA), the largest healthcare network in the UAE, has announced the closure of its field hospital located at Dubai Parks & Resorts following the discharge of the last COVID-19 patients during a closing ceremony held on Monday, July 13. Over the course of the last few weeks, several SEHA facilities have been declared as COVID-19-free, including Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, Al TawamHospital, and hospitals in the Al Dhafra region.

Built-in three weeks, the Dubai Parks & Resorts field hospital was one of the three field hospitals established by SEHA as a precautionary measure in preparation for a potential influx of patients. Since receiving its first patient on April 24, the 1,200-bed facility, has catered to 2,300+ patients who tested positive for COVID-19, following the treatment protocols outlined by the Ministry of Health and Prevention and Dubai Health Authority.

During the ceremony, SEHA extended its gratitude to the Dubai government partners and supporting services, who played an instrumental role in the establishment and operations of the field hospital. Dubai Parks & Resorts, Dubai COVID-19 Command and Control Center, Dubai Health Authority, Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, Dubai Police Force, Dubai Civil Defense, Roads and Transport Authority and Emirates Marshals were recognized with a token of appreciation from SEHA.

Dr. Aref Ali Al Shehhi, Senior Advisor to the Group CEO, SEHA, said: “The Dubai Parks & Resorts Field Hospital was established following the direction outlined by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to ensure the community’s every need is met and to complement the nation’s existing healthcare infrastructure. The facility’s success in serving over 2,300 patients comes as the result of a fruitful partnership with our partners in Dubai, we are immensely grateful for their alliance and support in serving the UAE’s community.”

“Today, we celebrate the departure of the Dubai Parks & Resorts field hospital’s last COVID-19 patients. As we wish them well, we extend our deepest thanks and appreciation to all those who have played an important role in the management and operations of the facility,” continued Al Shehhi.

The Dubai Parks & Resorts Field Hospital is the second of SEHA’s three field hospitals to discharge the last patients. The field hospital established in Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Center, which spanned 31,000 square meter and successfully treated 1,500+ patients, bid farewell to its last patient in June 2020.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in the UAE, SEHA established 24 facilities across the nation to expand testing capabilities and build on the existent healthcare infrastructure, performed 2 million COVID-19 tests, completed 200,000+ remote consultations through the Telemedicine Virtual Outpatient Clinic and delivered 120,000+ prescriptions to patient homes.
