Emirates Post, the leading postal and express delivery provider in the region, is encouraging schoolchildren to rediscover the art of letter writing by entering the UPU International Letter Writing Competition.  Now in its 48th year, the prestigious competition is organised by Emirates Post as part of the global activity of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), a United Nations body that oversees the world’s post.

Since 1971, the UPU has invited young writers aged between 10-15 years old to write letters on a given theme to be in with a chance of winning exciting prizes. “Write a letter to your hero” is the inspirational theme of the 2019 competition, which is being rolled out across schools around the world. Ten letters will be selected in the UAE and the winners will receive their prizes on World Post Day (09 October). One overall winner will also be chosen to represent the UAE at the international round of the competition.

Commenting on the competition, Obaid Mohammed Al Qatami, Acting Chief Commercial Officer at Emirates Post Group said, “We are proud to support the UPU International Letter Writing Competition and invite young people to take part in the competition. Writing letters are becoming increasingly rare in the digital age and this competition is a great way to revive this beautiful art, encourage creativity, and foster a passion for writing from a young age. It also makes people aware of the important role that postal services play in our daily lives. We encourage students to take part in this year’s competition and have a chance in representing the UAE at an international level.”

Interested participants should send their 500-1000 words letters by mail to the Emirates Post P.O Box 99388 before 30th March 2019. For further information on how to enter and for Terms + Conditions call 04 2303286 or visit www.epg.gov.ae.
