Say no to plastic and get yourself a stylish re-usable bag when you shop for groceries at Spinney’s this weekend. Students from The College Of Fashion and Design in Dubai have designed these cool bags that environmentally conscious customers can flaunt.

The students from CFD entered a competition to design an environmentally friendly shopping bag for Spinney’s, one of the biggest supermarket chains in the UAE. The winning bag designs are now being sold in the supermarket all over the country. CFD students were asked to design bags in three different categories based on a healthy living theme with an aim to reduce consumption of plastic bags in the UAE. Fatemeh Hajhassani, Zinah Issa, Jesus Silva and Hanean Baoom were the winners of this competition with Spinney’s donating AED1,000 to charity on behalf of each winner. The winners were selected by Morne Fourie, General Marketing Manager and Karolina Taterra, Events and Customer Care Manager of Spinney’s.

CFD is well-equipped with professional-quality fashion and innovation labs containing industrial sewing machines, ironing machines, a 3D printer, a laser cutter and an embroidery machine. A computer lab with MAC computers for digital design and a full-service Nikon photography lab are available for students to develop their skills. The CFD library boasts an exciting collection of Fashion and Business books, magazines, and films as well as access to three comprehensive databases of online resources.
