The DXB Theatre Awards is expanding across all seven emirates under a new name, the UAE Theatre Awards, with nominations now open for its 2026 edition. The community-led initiative will recognise theatre talent and productions nationwide, building on its inaugural Dubai edition in 2025.

Last year’s public call attracted more than 1,500 nominations from over 200 theatre artists and enthusiasts. The expansion will extend participation to theatre-makers across the UAE, with four new categories introduced in response to community feedback.

Nominations are open until 31 October 2026. Theatre companies, schools, troupes, performers and other members of the theatre community are encouraged to submit nominations in line with the published eligibility criteria.

New recognition for schools, youth theatre and improv

The 2026 awards introduce Best Improv Troupe, Best School Production, Best Youth Theatre Production and Best Gala Performance.

The additions bring dedicated recognition to more forms of performance, including the work of young theatre-makers and school communities alongside established talent.

Alex Broun, Producer and spokesperson for the UAE Theatre Awards Organizing Committee, said: “Theatre depends on much more than the performances audiences see on stage. It takes directors, designers, technicians, producers and many others working together to bring a production to life. Expanding the awards gives us an opportunity to recognise that collective effort across the UAE. The new school and youth categories are especially important, as we want young theatre-makers to know that their work deserves to be seen and celebrated. These are awards by the community, for the community.”

How to nominate

The awards’ new website, www.uaetheatreawards.com, brings together the 2026 categories, guidelines, eligibility criteria and information about the awards process. Entrants should review the requirements before submitting their nominations.
