Since opening on October 1, the Thailand Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai has already welcome over 100k visitors and it continues to attract vast crowds every day. An explosion of shimmering gold and dynamic displays and performances, there’s so much see and do, whether you arrive in the morning, at lunchtime or late in the evening. Here are five of the top things to experience.

Savour Thai food

Famous across the globe for its sweet and spicy salads, creamy curries and tasty noodles, Thai cuisine is out-of-this-world amazing. Inviting guests to experience the vibrant flavours of this fascinating cuisine here in Dubai, the pavilion offers a range of brilliant dining experiences. “The Taste of Thai” offers a sumptuous array of regional favourites, including pad thai, chicken satay, massaman curry, tom yum goong soup and more, all provided by Dubai’s own Little Bangkok restaurant.

Be amazed by the Thai Iconic daily shows

One of the key attractions of the Thailand Pavilion is its mesmerising programme of performances. As one of the few representations to offer live shows, visitors to the pavilion are invited to lift their spirits by watching the exceptionally talented Smile Band take up their instruments and play daily sets of upbeat and catchy tunes.

Meanwhile, the daily Thai Iconic shows fuse together the past and present customs of Thailand in spectacular fashion. Thai Fighting Spirit celebrates the amazing power of Muay Thai boxing, Thai Rhythm explores the beauty of art, music and dance, and Thai Miracle invites spectators to witness a majestic, “Khon” moving royal dance that’s now listed by UNESCO World Heritage. Manora, or “Nora”, for short, is an elegant style of traditional Thai dance originating in Southern Thailand. This UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage is displayed in the Thai Rhythm show as well. These powerful and moving performances make you feel like you’ve been transported to Thailand and will leave you desperate to book a flight and go there in person.

Pose with the cute mascots

Friendly and adorable, Rak and Mali have made plenty of visitors from across the globe since Expo 2020 Dubai began

The Thailand Pavilion mascots give every guest a warm welcome, and they’re always happy to stop for a photo with family and friends, or even a high-five or a hug.

They also play a starring role in the Pavilion’s special events, and they recently stole the show in a special dance off competition with the mascots from Australia, Iran and a number of other Pavilions.

Don’t forget to share your selfies with Rak and Mali on social media and tag the Thailand Pavilion (#Expo2020DubaiThailand) of course!

Discover the powers of Thailand’s futuristic technology

Exhibiting its largest Expo pavilion in 150 years at Expo 2020 Dubai, the exhibitions explain the concept behind ‘Digital Thailand’, its technologically driven, economic vision. An inspiring environment for discussion, industry leaders and visiting dignitaries are invited to use the space to forge new connections, exchange ideas and debate how we can achieve a more sustainable future.

Meanwhile, families and friends will also be left amazed at the cutting-edge technology displayed. Don’t miss the chance to see how Thailand is using robots to enhance the efficiencies of their medical and agricultural industries, or hear real-life testimonials from expats. In these personalised videos Thai residents discuss why the country is leading the way in building sustainable communities and how it is providing them with such a fulfilling and wonderful place to live and work.

See the Pavilion light up at night

Make sure you visit the Pavilion after sunset too. The Dok Rak Light and Sound Show lights up the façade of the Thailand Pavilion every evening and it is absolutely mesmerising to behold.

Covered with 500 golden Thai ‘good luck’ flowers, the pavilion is a shimmering and gorgeous sight at any time of the day. However, it is after dark when it really comes alive in a burst of glorious colours. Each flower is carefully interwoven to represent the nation’s continuous growth and development and the dok rak also symbolises love and a warm welcome.

Presenting four showings between 7pm and 10pm each evening, it will leave you open mouthed in wonder. Make sure you have your phone fully charged and ready to take a video too.
