The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and FUNN, the Sharjah Media Arts for Children and Youth Foundation, signed on Mondaya two-year agreement to work together on fighting hunger worldwide, particularly among youth and children.

Under the agreement, WFP and FUNN will work jointly on projects that help vulnerable communities, and provide school feeding programmes and initiatives that support women to secure a sustainable income. The Director of Sharjah International Children’s Festival (SICFF) and FUNN, Sheikha Jawaher bint Abdullah Al Qasimi, and WFP Representative and Director of Gulf Office Abdallah Al-Wardat signed the agreement.

Sheikha Jawaher expressed her commitment to the cause: “It is truly an honour to be a part of such a charitable foundation as the United Nations World Food Programme. I hope that this new partnership will have an extended reach and benefit numerous students that are in need of support to access sustenance every day. Our goal is to fight global hunger and signing this MoU has brought us one step closer to achieving our goal.”

In July, a FUNN delegation representing SICFF joined the Jordan-based WFP team for two days to learn about the programme’s strategy for food distribution in the Zaatari refugee camp. During this visit, WFP hosted a children’s film festival in the camp in cooperation with SICFF.

“Partnering with FUNN adds value to our projects that benefit millions worldwide every year,” said Al-Wardat. “We appreciate the continued support of the UAE Government and look forward to working with FUNN to provide vital food assistance to those affected by natural disasters, conflicts or other emergencies.”
