The Audi Cup got underway at the Allianz Arena yesterday as Real Madrid got through to the final as they defeated Tottenham Hotspurs. Real Madrid kicked things off when they faced off against the team from London. It was also a memorable moment for two Real Madrid players, Luka Modric and Gareth Bale as they were up against their former club.

Real Madrid manager Rafael Benitez decided to play a relatively full strength XI and handed starts to their new goalkeeper, Kiko Casilla and the right-back from Porto, Danilo and chose youngster Jese Rodriguez to be the lone striker whereas Spurs manager, Maurio Pocchetino decided to hand starts to new signings, Kevin Wimmer, Toby Alderweireld and Dele Alli.

Spurs started the game on a positive note when Right back, Kyle Walker burst into the area and played it to Erik Lamela who missed what could be called the best chance of the game by skying the ball from six-yards out. Two minutes later, Luka Modric released Jese, who got behind the Spurs defence and unleashed a half-volley out of nowhere which crashed the post. In the 7th minute, Jese was in the act again when Marcelo laid a pass to him and the young Spaniard cut onto his right and took a shot which was matched by a fantastic save from Michel Vorm. Six minutes later, Kiko Casilla was called into action when Christian Eriksen burst into the area and struck a powerful shot which the goalkeeper was able to stop with his legs.

In the 35th minute, Michel Vorm produced a fantastic save courtesy a shot by Luka Modric outside the area which was deflected when it struck Wimmer on the back and the Spurs shotstopper did well to scramble across and push it away. A minute later, Los Blancos drew first blood when Isco did really well to deliver a great cross from the left for James Rodriguez and the Colombian gets in between Eric Dier and Danny Rose to steer the ball with his head into the net. Real ended the 1st half with a one-goal lead.

The 2nd half started with both teams making changes. Goal-scorer, James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos made way for Casemiro and Lucas Vazquez respectively whereas Spurs manager decided to make 3 changes by bringing on Jan Vertonghen, Nacer Chadli and Nabil Bentaleb giving way for Kevin Wimmer, Erik Lamela and Eric Dier respectively. Spurs had much better control over the possession in the 2nd half than in the first. Nine minutes into the 2nd half, Nacer Chadli lay the ball out to Dele Alli who was making a run and Alli set up Christian Eriksen for a shot which went well over the bar. In the 60th minute, Rafa Benitez made 3 changes with Marcelo, Luka Modric and Jese making way for Alvaro Arbeloa, Illaramendi and Daniel Cheryshev respectively.

Further changes were made by both sides on the 70th minute mark when Spurs introduced Harry Winks and Thomas Carroll giving way to Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen respectively. Real, on the other hand bought on Marco Asensio and Nacho Fernandez for Isco and Sergio Ramos respectively. In the 79th minute, Los Blancos ensured the game was well and truly won when the former Spurs man, Gareth Bale struck a 25-yard shot which bounced in front of Michel Vorm. Real Madrid will face Bayern Munich in the final who beat AC Milan.
