The UAE’s best indoor skydivers will take to the air for the second annual SandStorm Scrambles event when Inflight Dubai hosts the two-class competition on Friday (February 19).

To be staged in the world’s tallest and largest tunnel for indoor flying, the competition is open to flyers of all abilities with the added twist that teams are scrambled from the individual entrants with two and four-person teams put together by Inflight Dubai’s Team Skynamic in order to represent a spread of ability.

Entries are set to close tonight (Wednesday) as Inflight Dubai counts down to an event that comes less than three months after the hugely-successful Clash of Champions, which featured over 300 skydivers from around the world.

SandStorm is primarily for locally-based skydivers and is a very popular social event as well as a sporting competition, said Meet Director Ricardo Del Castillo. The competition will showcase awesome flying, big-money prizes and a great party atmosphere with entry free of charge to the public.

Entrants will be scrambled into 2-Way and 4-Way Dynamic teams with the 4-Way teams each featuring a team leader from Team Skynamic or another suitably experienced and qualified flyer.

Flyers can still enter the competition by visiting www.inflightdubai.com with an entry fee of AED300 per flyer for each category. Featuring a total of AED 60,000 in prize-money, competitors will be competing for a first prize of AED 16,000 in the 4-Way event and AED 8,000 in the 2-Way category.

And while there will be prizes for the top three teams in each category, spectators can also join in on the fun with iPhones on offer to two lucky fans – spectators can attend free of charge and will be able to watch the action unfold from the Inflight Dubai Observation Deck.

The competition stars at 6.30pm on Friday (February 19). For both dynamic disciplines there will be a non-scoring warm-up round, four unique dynamic speed rounds and a mystery final round. The five scores of each round will be added together to determine the final placing.

Many people are still unaware of the skill, fitness and co-ordination involved in tunnel flying, added Del Castillo. Last year’s SandStorm was very popular with both competitors and spectators alike and we hope more people will come along to the Inflight Dubai facilities to

see the competition unfold and get a taste of one of the fastest growing sports in the world.
