‘Kowar’ Is A Cross-Cultural Artwork Spreading Concepts Of Tolerance At Art Dubai Fair
Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) took part in an artistic activity, ‘Kowar’ during Art Dubai under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, as part of Dubai Art Season, organised by Dubai Culture, the Strategic Partner of Art Dubai.
Dubai Culture assigned a group of young, talented artists who specialise in architecture and who are participating at SIKKA Art Fair to design ‘kowar’, with the aim to highlight the culture of coffee in the UAE, the Arab region, and the world through its cultural and social values, especially the way it is presented to guests, enhancing the spirit of tolerance among various people and acceptance of others. Dubai Culture focusses on the ‘Year of Tolerance’ theme and its values of openness to all cultures and peoples, through interacting with visitors and artists participating at the fair.
Commenting on Dubai Culture’s participation in Art Dubai, Walid Ahmad, Head of Dubai Art Season, said: “The participation of Dubai Culture supports young artists participating in the Sikka Art Fair and provides a platform to showcase their artwork and interact with the visitors and artists at the Art Dubai Fair. Such participation reflects the Authority’s commitment to supporting new talent in the UAE and the region, and introducing their work and creative developments to the public.”
Art Dubai was held in Madinat Jumeirah between 20 – 23 March with the participation of over 500 artists and 90 galleries from more than 40 countries, including the United Arab Emirates. It included four main exhibition halls, and its new design emphasised the Art Dubai Contemporary Gallery and Art Dubai Modern Gallery. Art Dubai launched the first edition of the Middle East, Africa and Asia museum-quality works, in addition to Latin America, and the new section ‘Emirates Now’ dealt with the local artistic interaction with current issues and the local creative dialogue.
Dubai Culture aims to enhance Dubai’s cultural scene and draw attention to the UAE’s rich heritage. The Authority’s mandate is to build bridges of constructive dialogue between different civilisations and cultures to enhance Dubai’s position as a creative and sustainable global city for culture, heritage, arts, and literature, with the aim to empower these sectors by developing creative and innovative projects and initiatives locally, regionally, and globally.
