London Art House Brings Exclusive Collaboration To The UAE
For the first time in the UAE, the works of emerging artist, Lillie Bernie, and established artist, Schoony, are available to buy through the newly launched website www.fortunefavoursart.
Founded by British entrepreneur and art connoisseur, Louis Wright, Fortune Favours Art offers the UAE market unprecedented access to some of the world’s best-known contemporary artists and will also provide a global platform for local Arabic artists to showcase their work to international collectors.
Following Fortune Favours Art’s signing of Bernie and Schoony, an original piece by each artist is available exclusively to UAE customers via the website. Also exclusive to the art house’s customers are limited edition Bernie and Schoony prints, with only 50 prints from each artist available for purchase. Ten original Schoony sculptures, in sizes and colours never before produced, can also be bought exclusively on the site.
In addition to the artists’ own works, Bernie and Schoony have joined forces to create an exclusive collaborative sculpture commissioned by Fortune Favours Art. Of the collaboration, Wright said: “I’m thrilled to have brought these two incredibly talented artists together and it’s so exciting to be able to offer this one-of-a-kind piece to the UAE market. I have followed the careers of Lillie and Schoony for a long time and it’s such an honour to bring their work to the Middle East.”
Bernie is an upcoming, London-based, abstract artist, inspired by human interactions and emotions and challenging personal experiences. She interprets her subject matter through the use of bold colours and textures. Of Bernie, Wright said: “Lillie is one of the most exciting emerging contemporary artists to come out of the UK.”
At the age of 14, Bernie began her career as a fashion model and went on to graduate from university with a degree in broadcast journalism. She soon realised her true passion was painting and photography. Bernie’s abstract style of painting is inspired by, in her own words, ‘thinking about something greater than one’s self’.
Schoony, also known as Tristan Schoonraad, is considered one of the most pioneering established artists in today’s contemporary art market. With a background in special effects and prosthetics, London-born Schoony has been working on the sets of Hollywood films for years, with his works featured in blockbusters such as Troy, Harry Potter and Gladiator. While on set, Schoony became an expert in the creation of life-size models of humans and monsters.
Versions of his sculpture, Boy Soldier, have been purchased by celebrities including Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Damon Albarn of the music group Blur and Benedict Cumberbatch. Boy Soldier is a hyper-realistic depiction of a young boy wearing a war helmet and holding a hand grenade.
Schoony constructs his sculptures and installations using extensive life-casting techniques and a wide range of materials, including metals and plastic. His pieces focus on themes such as commercialism and violence.
Schoony has gained popularity in Europe and the US and has permanent representation from the Waluso Gallery in London and Guy Hepner Gallery in New York.
