Expo2020 is a destination of opportunity, and the Malaysia Pavilion is no exception. October is an exciting month for Expo organisers, pavilions and UAE residents alike as the site opens to the public.

Malaysia Pavilion joins a host of other nations showcasing their national pride and aspirations to local and international visitors after Expo 2020 Dubai opened its door on 1^st October 2021 amidst the global pandemic.

Spearheaded by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) the Malaysia Pavilion will host 26 thematic trade and business weeks for the duration of the expo. These programmes will involve a total of 21 ministries, 70 agencies and five state governments of Malaysia leading and supporting the programmes, and bringing with them about 300 companies as business delegates.

The weekly activities comprise pocket talks, panel discussions, product launches, business matching sessions and formalisation of Memorandums of Understanding.

It will debut with the Commercialisation: from Lab to International Week spanning 1^st to 9^th October 2021 led by MOSTI and its agency Technology Park Malaysia which will see the exchange of three MoUs  The two programmes under MOSTI aim to promote Malaysia’s technologies and startups and forge partnerships in enhancing R&D&C activities.

October 4^th: The first event is set to be held on 4th October 2021, where the pavilion will host its official opening ceremony. Ambassador of Malaysia to the United Arab Emirates H.E. MohdTaridSufian will read the launching speech on behalf of the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation The Honourable Dr Adham Baba.

Also present at the hybrid event to be held at the Pavilion’s amphitheatre will be Consul- General of Malaysia in Dubai His Excellency MohdHasril Abdul Hamid, CEO of Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Centre (MGTC) Shamsul Bahar Mohammad Nor and Madam FairulAzidaShahabudin of the Main Secretariat at MOSTI, and guests.

The ceremony will be livestreamed on Malaysia Pavilion’s facebook EXPO2020Malaysia and Youtube channel Malaysia Expo 2020 Dubai and MOSTI’s facebook at Kementerian Sains, Teknologi dan Inovasi (MOSTI).

Guests at the ceremony will watch a stereoscopic video to mark the launch and proceed for a tour for a first -hand unique experiences of Malaysia’s Rainforest Canopy Pavilion and the messages the nation wants to deliver at Expo 2020 Dubai.

October 5^th: Yayasan Inovasi Malaysia (YIM) and MOSTI are joining forces on October 5^th to host the Malaysia International Technology Summit (MITS) 2021. The summit will gather international industry leaders to discuss the science and technology ecosystem, innovation, environmental concerns and much more. Visitors can look forward to panel discussions, masterclasses, a keynote by Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Malaysia,The Honourable Dr Adham Baba, and a special address by H.E Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of Artificial Intelligence at the Office of the Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates. MITS 2021 will also host two Memorandum of Understanding and agreement signing ceremonies. Furthermore, this is an opportunity to network with leaders in the science and technology space.

The MOSTI-led weeks will be followed by two weeks of programmes in October helmed by the Ministry of Environment and Water (KASA).

October 17^th – 23^rd: Malaysia Pavilion’s Green Technology Innovation Week led by KASA and its agency, Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Centre will be launched during the third week to promote innovations in green technology including eco products and services. Highlights include the MyHijau Mark label that recognises certified green products and services,and ”Seminar on Accelerating Green Technology and Climate Actions in Malaysia” on October 18th.

October 24^th– 30^th: The last week’s programme is entitledClimate Resilience & Sustainable Infrastructure with a key event “Climate Change Conversation on Sustainable Infrastructure held the next day at Terra Auditorium, Expo site. KASA secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr ZainiUjangwill grace the programme.

Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Centre (MGTC) Chief Executive Officer Mr Shamsul BaharMohd Nor said: “The weekly trade and business programmes are designed to provide a platform for our industries to access global markets viaExpo2020 Dubai. The companies include SMEs, startups, export-ready companies and established players.

“Malaysia has much to offer as a developing country on its way to becoming a developed nation whose progress is driven by science, technology and innovation. We welcome the  international business community at Expo to join the programmes and explore collaborative potentials for our shared prosperity.”

Visitors can enjoy daily cultural shows performed by the National Department of Culture and Arts (JKKN). Craftsmen from Kraftangan Malaysia also have three daily artisan craft demonstrations showing visitors how to create hand-painted batik, weavings, jewellery and costume beading.
