The Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation (MOSTI), has lined up another interesting week of programmes and activities at the Malaysian Pavilion for the Expo2020 Dubai, this time focusing on the Startup Ecosystem. MOSTI’s agency, Cradle Fund Sdn Bhd (Cradle) will be the host of Week 2 of this international quinquennial event held from 11 – 15 October 2021.

Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, The Honourable Dato’ Sri Dr. Adham Baba said: “The Week two programme at the Malaysia Pavilion of Expo2020 Dubai will be dedicated to startups, in line with MOSTI’s strategy of putting startups in the economic driving seat. Themed “Creating Tomorrow’s Sustainable Startups”, it is a showcase of Malaysia’s thriving technology ecosystem from the perspective of policy makers, investors and homegrown leading startups. It will also unveil Malaysia’s plans as a startup investment hub given the opportunities and incentives available, strategic location, booming local ecosystem as well as world class communications and transport infrastructure.”

Cradle will facilitate key players of the Malaysian startup ecosystem comprising 30 organisations and startup companies, who will be on hand to share the best of Malaysia’s innovation and technological breakthroughs as well as to promote global collaborations and strategic partnerships.

Among the notable speakers presenting at the Expo are Dr.NagulendranKangayatkarasu, Deputy Secretary General (Planning and STI Enculturation) of MOSTI; Rafiza Ghazali, Group CEO of Cradle; Cheryl Goh, Founding Chief Marketing Officer of GRAB and Professor Dr. Shuji Nakamura, 2014 Nobel Prize Winner in Physics.

More than 20 speakers will also participate during the Expo, including leading industry figures such as Datuk Yvonne Chia, Chairman of Cradle Fund SdnBhd (Cradle); Khailee Ng, Managing Partner of 500 Startups; Thomas Tsao, Co-Founder of Gobi Partners; Jafri Ibrahim, CEO of CREST; Hazami Habib, CEO of Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM); Dr. Rezal Khairi Ahmad, CEO of Nano Malaysia; Shahril Anas, CEO of Malaysia Venture Capital Management (MAVCAP); Taufiq Iskandar Jamingan, CIO of Penjana Kapital, among others. Throughout week 2, 17 Malaysian startups will showcase their technology at the global stage. They are; Inference Tech, GK Aqua, Neuon AI, ServisHero Group, HAVVA Agrotech, Exponential Digitals, MoneyMatch, Avana, Aerodyne, HolidayMe, IGeneTech Capital Resources, Euro Circuit, Seers Berhad,Voltron Malaysia, MDT Innovations and One River Power.

There will be seven memorandum of understandings (MoUs) exchanged during Expo2020 Dubai Week two, estimated to bring a total amount of USD$295 million worth of investment, signalling strengthened relationship between Malaysia and global partners.

The MoUs are:

  • MoU signing between MYEG Services Berhad (MYEG) with China Academy of Information & Communications Technology (CAICT) which we will be witnessed by the Minister of Science, Technology & Innovation (MOSTI), YB Dato’ Sri Dr. Adham Bin Baba via a virtual ceremony.
  • MoU exchange between TechCapital Resources SdnBhd and Terrabit Consulting DWC-LLC
  • MoU exchange between TechCapital Resources SdnBhd and Shaheena Foodstuffs Trading
  • MoU exchange between Euro Circuit Technology Sdn Bhd and Modern Arab Laboratories LLC (MODAL) Oman
  • MoU exchange between Euro Circuit Technology SdnBhd and Bardawil Specialties Qatar W.L.L
  • MoU exchange between Euro Circuit Technology SdnBhd and Al Ghad Al Zahir for Oilfield Services L.t.d, Iraq & Kuwait
  • MoU exchange between GK Aqua SdnBhd and El Komy

The Malaysia Pavilion is designed as a rainforest canopy. The various segments of the Pavilion house permanent displays and exhibits that reflect Malaysia’s unique and steadfast commitment to sustainable development. The Pavilion will host weekly thematic trade and business programmes which encompass over 10 industry verticals. They include education, youth & technopreneurship, trade, Industry 4.0 & smart manufacturing, science, technology and innovation, environment & water, sustainable agriculture & agricommodities, healthcare, tourism & culture, energy, e-commerce & ICT, halal industry and Islamic finance.
