Rory McIlroy reclaims the spot at the top of the leader board following a third-round 67to take a one-shot lead with one round to play at the DP World Tour Championship,Dubai, the final Rolex Series event of 2021.

McIlroy, who was also the leader after round one, continues his impressive return to form after the Ryder Cup earlier this year, making seven birdies around the Earth Course to find himself a shot ahead of Englishman, Sam Horsfield, who bogeyed the last to slip one back.

Following the round, McIlroy said: “After a bogey on the 1st, I responded well with birdies on 2 and 3. Ended up turning at 3-under par and then the back nine was good…I just thought it was important to make birdie at the last to get into the final group as well. I knew that putt was to get into the final group, and I wanted to do that, so it was a nice way to finish.

“I’m right where I want to be. I want to be contending on Sundays in golf tournaments and feel like I’m back to playing the way I should and the way that will get me back contending. I’m excited, I’m excited to go out there and try to pick up another one.”

Sitting two shots back of the lead and hoping for a low round tomorrow are Sweden’s Alexander Bjork and Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre after carding 69 and 67 respectively.

The current Race to Dubai leader, Collin Morikawa, remains steady with three birdies and no bogeys on his way to a 69 in round three, following two 68’s in the opening rounds he sits three shots back of the lead. If the standings stay the same, the 2021 Open Champion and world number two, will claim the season-long Race to Dubai victory.

The stage is set for a thrilling final round of the 2021 Race to Dubai season, kicking off tomorrow at 7.45am with the leaders teeing off at 12.05pm.
