Mohammed Bin Rashid Library Celebrates UAE University & Ahmed Bin Sulayem Al-Falasi On 24 September
Mohammed Bin Rashid Library will host a cultural and knowledge programme next Thursday celebrating two significant milestones in the UAE’s knowledge and cultural journey. It will highlight the journey of UAE University and its pivotal role in advancing higher education, fostering scientific research, and developing national talent, coinciding with the university’s Golden Jubilee celebrations. The programme will also commemorate the legacy of poet Ahmed bin Sulayem Al Falasi and his role in enriching Nabati poetry and preserving the nation’s collective memory, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of his passing. The programme also celebrates the inclusion of both occasions in UNESCO’s Programme of Commemorations for the Anniversaries of Figures and Institutions as part of the 2026 cycle.
The programme will feature two sessions focusing on the journey of UAE University. The first, titled Fifty Years of Knowledge Leadership: Vision and Beginnings, will revisit the university’s early years and the vision of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in establishing an institution dedicated to science and knowledge that would serve as a beacon for national development and human advancement. The session will feature insights from His Excellency Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, Cultural Advisor to the UAE President and Chancellor of UAE University, who will reflect on the university’s journey and legacy, in conversation with Dr. Sulaiman Al Hattlan.
The second session, titled Fifty Years of Knowledge Leadership: Journey and Achievements, will explore the university’s development and its role in higher education, scientific research, and the preparation of national talent. Participants will include Professor Mohsen Sharif, Dr. Suad Al Marzooqi, Dr. Rami Beiram, Dr. Fikri Kharbash, and Professor Mohammed Al Yafei.
A Poetic Legacy and National Memory
The Library will also host a dialogue session titled “A Poetic Legacy That Tells the Story of the Nation’s Memory,” exploring the poetic journey of Ahmed bin Sulayem Al Falasi and his contributions to preserving national memory and strengthening the status of Nabati poetry. The session will feature writer and media professional Ali Obaid Al Hammali, His Excellency Bilal Al Budoor, and poet Aida bin Masoud.
The Library will also hold a poetry evening titled In the Realm of Nabati Poetry, featuring poet Sheikha Almteiri. The evening will celebrate the legacy of Ahmed bin Sulayem Al Falasi, his contributions to enriching Nabati poetry and reinforcing national identity, and the lasting impact he left on the country’s cultural memory.
