The wheelchair basketball championship of the Nad Al Sheba Sports tournament entered the final stage as the semi-final line-up has been decided on Wednesday night.

In the semi-finals to be played at the Dubai Club for People of Determination grounds on Friday, Dubai Police General Command, the leader of the first group, will meet Roads and Transport Authority, the runner-up of the second group, while Dubai Ambulance, the leader of the second group, will meet Al Bustan Center and Residence, the runner-up of first group.

The final will be held on Sunday in the hall of Nad Al Sheba Complex, while the two losers of the semi-finals will meet for the third place – the third-place play-off will be held Saturday.

The last day of the preliminary round saw the Department of Finance defeat Dubai Electricity and Water Authority 26-12, while the Dubai Municipality team beat Ability Life 22-20. Al Bustan Center and Residence defeated Dubai Courts 28-16 while Dubai Ambulance snatched the lead in the group winning by a close margin of 21-19 over Dubai Roads.

Dubai Police, Dubai Ambulance top group

At the end of the first round, Dubai Police topped the first group with a full score of 8 points, followed by the Center and Residence with 7 points, the Third Department of Finance with 6 points, Dubai Electricity Fourth with 5 points, and Dubai Courts last with 4 points, while the Dubai Ambulance Team topped the second group with a full score of 8 points. Followed by the Roads Authority with 7 points, Dubai Municipality with 6 points in third place, Ability Life fourth with 5 points and Community Development Authority fifth with 4 points.

‘2023 edition among strongest’

International referee Yaqoub Gabesh confirmed that the Nad Al Sheba tournament has a great impact during the blessed month of Ramadan, and everyone is eagerly waiting for it.

He added that the 2023 edition is one of the strongest basketball tournaments, as it includes many distinguished players, in addition to the presence of categories in each team, and therefore there is equality in all matches, and the audience enjoyed the thrill of edge-of-the-seat encounters, which is evidence of the growth of the sport and the players.
