Opera Gallery Dubai, part of the internationally renowned Opera Gallery network, presents the exclusive “Calligrafuturism – Chapter 1.0” gallery show by Pokras Lampas. Commencing with an opening night not to be missed on Tuesday 6th December, the exhibition is set to impress in a unique celebration of Opera Gallery Dubai’s exclusive representation of this progressive artist within the region.

As one of the most distinguished modern calligraphy artists in the world, the inaugural
collaboration between Pokras Lampas and Opera Gallery Dubai is set to be absolutely
monumental, with the opening night epitomising his unique approach to calligraphy and
the perfect execution of his work. Following the opening night, Pokras’ most creative,
inventive and edgy masterpieces, created as part of the first solo show in the region; will
be displayed in Opera Gallery Dubai up until December 20th, 2016.

Pokras is a Russian born artist who began his career creating graffiti in 2008. Soon after
being inspired by Niels “Shoe” Meulman’s movement “Calligraffiti”, he turned his focus
onto street calligraphy. Later, Pokras was invited by Niels to become an official
Calligraffiti Ambassador and has since been working on the self-developed style
“Calligrafuturism” which will be exclusively showcased at the upcoming Opera Gallery
Dubai exhibition.

His work and technique as an artist has rapidly progressed and evolved into what is
considered to be the most sophisticated form of “Calligraffiti” and he has since been in
high demand for artistic and corporate projects, as well as being commissioned by some
of today’s biggest private art patrons in the world. Most notably, he has achieved
exceptional feats such as setting the World Record for the biggest calligraphy work,
proudly adorning a rooftop in Moscow which is visible on Google Earth.
Pokras is actively experimenting with different directions of modern calligraphy by
applying and combining his knowledge of street culture, design and typography of
different nations and ages. What is most striking about Pokras as an artist is his
relentless ability to push the boundaries of calligraphy further than anybody ever has.
Whether it be in a different alphabet, the use of colors, mediums, instruments or texture;
Pokras displays incredible maturity and curiosity. All of his passion and technique have
been translated onto twenty captivating canvases, unveiled on the occasion of this solo
show aptly titled “Calligrafuturism – Chapter 1.0”
