SKMC will start 2nd phase of New Health Information System from Saturday
Abu Dhabi, Dec 03rd, 2009 (WAM) — The Information Technology Division at the Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) managed by Cleveland Clinic will go live with the second phase of the new Health Information System (HIS) on Dec 5th.
The new features of the second phase will add more functionality to improve the patient healthcare experience, greatly reduce the paper medical records, improve patient safety, enhance patient confidentiality and reduce the need for redundant medical tests when visiting any SKMC clinic or hospital.
SKMC started the implementation of the Cerner Healthcare Information System (internally branded as the iCare solution) in July 2008 which was launched as part of a SEHA wide initiative to introduce the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) System for all of its facilities.
The first phase involved the introduction of systems in Registration, Medical Records, Pharmacy, and Radiology. The second phase will include Physician Order Entry – Medications and Medical Tests, Nursing Documentation, Laboratory, Surgery department, and Emergency department.
Saif Bader Al Qubaisi, Chairman of SEHA stated: “This project quite simply reflects the government’s initiatives in making our healthcare system better and safer by using the latest technology and this milestone is the one in a series of steps to automate medical recordkeeping and other patient systems” Carl Stanifer, CEO of SEHA, stated: “At SEHA, our goal is to provide all our patients with the best healthcare available.
