Stepping Stones by Orb Theatricals is putting up their first student show this July. Orb Theatricals has built a reputation of presenting some fantastic productions that have won the group rave reviews from fans and critics alike. “By Cerise” is the first student’s production by Stepping Stones and is written by Cerise de Gelder, an Australian playwright whose plays have been successfully performed in the Short+Sweet Theatre Festival including an Audience Choice win for her play “Blabbermouth” in 2018 Gala Finals which was also presented by Orb Theatricals. By Ceriseis to be staged at The Junction in Al Serkal Avenue on the 19th of July 2019.

“By Ceriseis one show with two short plays by Cerise de Gelder: Unforgettable and Snap. Each play is approximately 40 mins in length and will be presented back to back with a short interval in between.

Unforgettable is a journey of an art piece that touched the lives of people over various periods of history and the story spans from 1500s to current times. It’s an interlinked piece of five short stories connected by one piece of art. Each short piece has two characters: one who believes in the uniqueness of the art piece and the mastery of its artist and the other who believes it’s a forgettable piece of art that would get lost in history.

“Snap” is a story of five friends on a promontory dealing with the death of someone close to them. The play reveals the stories of each character and brings out the skeletons in their closets as each works towards finding out how exactly the death occurred.

“Both plays are stamped with Cerise’s unique storytelling style and are sure to intrigue the audiences”, says Director Sabiha Majgaonkar, who is putting up this show for the students that are learning Theatre under her. She is excited to see her students perform on stage. “Some of these students have zero to no stage experience which makes the process of putting up the show that much more challenging. However their enthusiasm and willingness to submit to the art is heartening and it pushes me to bring out the very best in them”, says Sabiha. The plays also have some of the Theatre community veterans and known faces along with students performing on stage.
