Dubai has launched yet an other another record breaking tower. The one billion Dirham Cayan Tower, formerly known as Infinity Tower has been inaugurated on Monday 10th June. Cayan Real Estate Investment the developer of the tower says, the 307-meter-high tower holds the record for the tallest twisted architectural creation in the world, “We wanted to develop a different creation to be part of the competition [for towers] in Dubai, ” said Ahmed Alhatti, president and chairman of Cayan Group. Located in the Dubai Marina area, the residential tower has sold over 80 per cent of its approximately 570 residential units, which includes 495 apartments, with one to four bedrooms, and penthouses. Currently, the selling of residential units has stopped, but it is expected to resume after the summer months, according to Alhatti. Buyers that have units in the tower can move in starting from Tuesday, he said. The tower, which has a 90 degree curve from top to bottom, also includes retail space and it is expected to have a spa as well. It’s taken eight years to develop Cayan Tower, which was expected to be launched in 2010. The delay is a result of a number of factors, including the financial woes of 2008 that put many projects in Dubai on hold. Another factor is the collapse of the wall that held back the Marina water in 2007, Alhatti explained. The 75 storey tower was designed by Skidmore Owings and Merrill, known for projects such as Burj Khalifa. Cayan is “studying two projects in Dubai,” he said, but declined to give further details.
