The Royal Gala: Luxury Fashion At Palazzo Versace Dubai
The most fashionable event of 2019, The Royal Gala, once again brought together some of the most promising and well-established designers from across the globe. Happening every April and October, to coincide with the world’s major fashion weeks, The Royal Gala was once again staged in the fabulous Royal Ballroom of the Palazzo Versace on April 27th.
Sheikha Hend Al Qassimi, a true patroness of fashion and the arts in general hosted the evening’s chic affair. All the VIP guests were welcomed by the striking ‘Pietra di Fiume’ design of the iconic Medusa and Greek décor of the hotel’s lobby, other guests included key business people, media, buyers and digital influencers. Sheikha Hend commented; “Dubai, has become a regional lighthouse for innovation and design thanks to its government’s keenness to launch initiatives that support progress in the design industry, and stimulate innovation. It’s great to see such a varied mix of guests- that have the same interests at heart come together.”
With designers from Mexico, Spain, Italy, Russia, Nigeria as well as Morocco and the UAE- they all displayed creativity within their distinctive collections.
Mexican designer duo Iann Dey presented a stunning collection with strong influences from Egypt- think neutral palette reminiscent of sand dunes, paired with dazzling gold, their collection was aptly titled; ‘Egip|Xico’, whereas fellow Mexican jewellery and accessories brand Morena Corazon, displayed an eclectic collection of pieces that were truly Mexican at heart, a real testament to their arts and crafts heritage. Another designer who stayed true to her roots was Spanish Couture house Raquel Lopez, who presented her collection ‘Second Skin’, a collection that embodies everything feminine- elegance and confidence.
Montenapoleone designer Lorrive by Lorena Rivero showcased a stunning color-coordinated collection of striking silhouettes. Their color choice, Amethyst relates to positive energy- which was in abundance, the models radiated confidence on the catwalk. Another striking design concept was Remezka Shop by Russian Ekatrina Remez, who is the true definition of creative designer- she creates hand-made wooden carved bags with unusual concepts as inspiration. Moroccan Couture Kaftan designer, Fatima Idrissi is no stranger to the global runway, with repeated stints in Paris, with Oriental Fashion Week, to most recently L.A Fashion Week, brought intricately embroidered details to the traditional wear. However, adding color and culture to the runway came courtesy of Hope by Kiki Okewale. Hope Atelier, by the Nigerian Haute Couture designer showcased distinctive designs and primitive patterns, which was powered by the African Fashion Fund.
Dubai-based label Larimar by Szandra, showcased a truly colorful collection that was bold and feminine, with the finale resembling a rainbow of colors. Another equally as feminine within designs, was Dubai- based label, Vavci, who not only showcased Womenswear, but Menswear too- both complementing each other in style and design.
With the luxury fashion and lifestyle event under the patronage of H.H Sheikha Hend, her own namesake label; House of Hend, unveiled their signature style of timeless elegance and sleek silhouettes, within a paint-box hue color palette- perfect for the summer!
With Sheikha’s advocacy for progression and innovation, The Royal Gala gave the College of Fashion and Design Dubai (CFD) B.A Fashion students the opportunity to showcase their designs within an industry event, giving them first-hand insights and integration.
Taking a break from the shows that evening, the guests got to enjoy the three outdoor pools decorated with mosaic tiles and surrounded by palm trees and flowers. Amidst the surroundings, the luxury fashion show ended with a Gala dinner, where Sheikha Hend hosted the Royals, VIPs and designers; concluding with them receiving an award of recognition and appreciation.
The Royal Gala, once again, was successful in its objective to promote its advocacy to expose the UAE to international fashion, while at the same time promoting the UAE fashion to the rest of the world, making it a unique, fashionable and luxurious affair.
